1. What material was traditionally used for step pads back in the 50s and 60s?

2. What is the correct material to use?

Probably not much help Todd, but the ones I've seen appeared to be originally made of (white) rubber.(?) (Almost like the old bath or shower mats you used to see.) Of course years of exposure to the sun and elements turns them into brittle, crumbling, chalk-like substance. I've had my hands on several sets in the past, but passed them along to others who wanted/needed them......

I think Andrew (Andgott) is onto something for replacements, hopefully he'll check in with the info here. ;)

I'm sure you've seen it, but there's a thread on this subject in the Woodie section; www.fiberglassics.com/glassic-forums/5--wood-boats-/41096-1957-crosby-capri.html?limit=40&start=40#50423

The inserts were usually cast rubber. As mark says, by now most are old and brittle, beyond use...

I have found a supplier for a urethane material that should make an excellent replacement- And can be cast into pretty much any shape needed. Now all I need to do is find some time :)

I want to recreate the ones with "Glastron" molded in it. Need to find one I can take a casting from.
