to ALL,

i rather like one of the OLD (there were several) "Oaths of Enrollment", that was taken by some Doughboys of the WWI period, better than the current Oath of Enlistment, as it says, in few words, what "it is about":

" I (state your name) do swear, before Almighty God, that I will willingly lay down my life for liberty and the people of The United States of America."
(signed) John Singleton M. Bankhead, Pvt, Texas Cavalry

note: i found this oath, written on a scrap of paper in my Great Uncle Jack's Bible, years after his death in the 1960s.- it was obviously still important to him, a HALF-CENTURY after he signed it.

Ditto to all of the above.

I never served, don't necessarily agree with everything the politicians have asked them to do, but am very grateful and appreciative of their service and sacrifice, wherever it may be.

It allows us to stay here and mess about in boats.

I was asked to serve a great nation at a very unpopular time and refused. For the last ten years or so I've very much regretted my decision. In light of that I have the deepest most profound respect for those who didn't refuse and my thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women of this country who were also asked to serve and Did. Thank you. Hopefully we'll see you all home by years end.

Water wings. Another swab jockey. Only put in six years myself, strictly east coast sailor, two Med cruises, Bath Main to Mayport, Fl. in the mid 60's. If I read correctly awhile ago you were a tailhooker?? Thanks for your service and to all who put it on the line. Just shows to go, you can never get the water out of the sailor.
Thanks.

Cal,
Yep your right, never can get the water out of the sailor! Actually I was a prior AT and worked on EP-3's out of Rota Spain, then went ECP and was an NFO on E-6A's (707) TACAMO birds out of Oklahoma, Tinker AFB. My time on the boat was disassociated sea tour as the TActical Action Officer (TAO) down in CDC, 2 year tour, USS Enterprise, started Enduring Freedom. Sorry don't mean to steal the thread.
