I need a trailer for the Glastron. Does not necessarily need to be vintage, just a good usable unit. I can go 2 hours away and get one for $700 or I can go 20 minutes away and get one for $400 with a free boat. Then I stuck with some unwanted POS that I have no use or place for. What's with that?

That plastic would be OK for making a pad that looked good, but not as 'functional' as a step pad... There are a couple of different castable rubbers out there that would work- they are available in various hardnesses from very soft to VERY hard- I am just not sure about the stability of them in UV light. I'll have to email the manufacturer to find out!

I had intended to 'play' with step pads this winter sometime... Obviously, since I don't own a Crosby, I had no intention of making crosby specific ones- But could do so (or at least make a valiant attempt!) if there is enough demand for them, AND a good one to work from.

If it truely is a pos, boats sink and or catch fire all the time. Or you could turn around and give the boat away.

If the $400.00 trailer meets your needs that is the one I would choose. On the way home stop at the nearest "crusher" to dump the pos. Considering the extra $$$, time, and gas seems to be the better deal too me if they are in similar condition.Take tools and strip any hardware that is usable.

Ditto to Oceans2.
$400 if the trailer is usable, good tires, bearings, solid hitch, etc. Strip the hardware off the old boat and box 'em up for future use or dump them on eBay. Steering wheels, motor controls go for good prices. After it's stripped take it to a local landfill. I paid $35 at the county landfill when I dumped an 18' Dorsett, it was crushed and ground up. The aluminum that's salaveable might be enough to put a few beers in the fridge. If you sell parts you'll come out maybe paying only $200 for the trailer that you want.

Those are great ideas in theory. However, in this part of the world, dumps won't take boats unless they are broken up and in a dumpster. I'm not paying for that.

Take the free boat with the $400 trailer. When you get home, dig a hole in your front yard, stand the boat straight up and bury the stern. Place a statue of the Virgin Mary in your new sacred grotto and add a birdbath for donations. Result: Free yard art, $300 trailer savings and tips for life. (Just trying to think outside the box.)

We have a VFW post in our area that took an old boat and put it in the ground up to the water line, put crushed gravel around it, painted the gravel blue to look like water and made a planter out of it. sumertime the thing is overflowing in color.

OR claim that you've seen an image of the Virgin of __________________________(whereever you live) in the boat & take bids on who will pay you the most for the hull.
(soon at least a hundred people will claim that they too have seen her!)

in all seriousness take the boat/trailer & give someone else the hull. - here in SA a fellow on craigslist did that last week - he told me (i went his place to buy some trailer tires) that a total of 8 people wanted the bare 1990 ski-boat hull.= free is hard for many people to resist!

good luck, satx

Is there a photo of the less than stellar craft? If so, A better title for this thread would be, "Does anyone want this boat?"

Re:Boat trailer conundrum. 12 years 11 months ago #49260

Someone offered me a boat this evening. about an 18' Sears brand runabout, maybe 1970. BUT - it has a good looking 60 electric start Evinrude of about the same vintage, and a usable trailer - minus one wheel. Boat is totally not desirable.

So, strip, sawsall, to the dumpster and it's done. Or smaller pieces and the garbage can in your case, maybe.

Cal : How can you be so insensitive and descriptive about the CRUSHED UP GROUND UP Dorsett  You're going to make me cry again . But I agree with the: get the trailer just don't post any pictures of the boat left at the landfill or being crushed.

Found a trailer with out a boat for $500. The only thing it needs is new bunks. So the junk boats of the world can breathe a little easier.

Hey Nautilus,

Between you and Satx, I'm all but peeing my pants!!! I knew reading the forums this early in the morning was probably not the smartest thing to do. Now I'll be laughing about your comments all day. I'll admit to cut/paste them into emails to friends and they all find the members here to have a great sense of humor.

What patience? I was on craigslist 3x a day.

I actually offered the boat to my attorney in lieu of payment, but that didn't go over well.

Re:Boat trailer conundrum. 12 years 11 months ago #49379

todd,

sadly, what i said is FAR from humorous or even original.

after all we have guy here from Mercedes, TX who "saw Jesus in a bowl of menudo"
(that's a pork, tripe, hot pepper & hominy soup for you yankees.)
and
now NUMEROUS people claim to have seen Jesus, Mary and/or one of the saints in THEIR soup-bowls, too.
and
then there's the lady from Laredo, who claims that "the blessed virgin" lives in ALL traffic lights
and
and
and
well, you get the idea.= we have some "interesting folks" here in south TX.

yours, satx

todd et.al.,

lest you think that i'm "anti-Catholic", my beloved daughter is devoutly RC.

i also cannot resist telling you that in Austin (our state's capital city) one of the MALE candidates for mayor campaigned:
1. wearing a PINK TUTU w/ballet slippers
and
2.(some of the time) in matching black lace panties, bra, garter belt & 6" heels.

as our late/beloved TX playright, Ramsey Yelvington, used to say: "Texas is such a big stage, that you must do something TRULY FLAMBOYANT to be even noticed."

Ah - Leslie!

You forgot to mention that he hasn't bathed since probably the 70's!

KVET had all the candidates on at various times, but Leslie never made it. They put a requirement that he bathe first, he wouldn't, so they wouldn't let him in.

Ah, Austin - I miss it sometimes.

In an attempt to rescue this thread from trying to find a Madonna to put in an upturned Searay and the Texas Drag Queen party, I thought I would post a picture of the trailer. Replace the 4' roller bunks with 8" carpet bunks and it should be good to go.

NICE trailer Todd, looks like new. In reference to the bunk conversion, the two existing brackets could be used with the "adapter brackets" below, and add the two (or four) complete bracket assy. as listed on the other post?

To the Texans in the room,

Guys I totally LOVED the three years I spent at Fort Hood. The people of Texas always treated me well and I can honestly say it was three of the best years of my career. I do miss it at times. My wife tends to worry when I sit at my desk wearing my cavalry Stetson. She gets scared when I throw on the spurs. (Somehow that will get misinterperted but who cares!!!)

It does somewhat bother me about the guy with the Savior in his soup. Was the Lord in there doing the backstroke or just waiting for the guy with the spoon to throw in a couple of oyster crackers like a PFD? After his vision, did he continue eating the soup? That sounds a bit sacreligious to me.

As for the abundance of "visoneers" you have recently, I say open a soup and salad restaurant and reap the bennies. You can have the local clergy in on the act by asking them to rotate through your place daily to bless the feast and thank them with all the free holy soup they can consume that day. Watch the crowds stampede through your doors.

Like they say, when life hands you lemons, open up a lemonade stand, milk it for all its worth, franchise it all over and blow out of town with more money than creases.

Don't get me wrong, I loved texas. Did my Navigator training at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, just thought Austin was a little "out there". Had a blast at the Dueling Piano Bar though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
