TOPIC: Help!

Help! 12 years 11 months ago #48739

New to site, only heard of it yesterday. Need help with a glass boat given to me a few years back. Any info appreciated. It is a 'Sting Ray' personal watercraft. It looks to be possibly from the 60/70's. Hull is 8' long and 4' at the widest point. Shaped like a hydraplane with a slight tunnel and stepped up rear. An outboard motor is fixed inside in the very back with the lowerend sticking down between 2 rudders. The motor is 2 cyl. metalic green color made in Canada with electric start, forward and reverse. It has a geometric horse logo on it but no other name. The body is moulded for two people one behind the other. It has a bowtie steering wheel. There is a warentee decal inside the engine cover calling it a Sting Ray, Marine Unlimited, Inc. Warren, Michigan. I'll try to get a photo posted. Thankyou for any help, Mike Susko.

Thank you, Karma. That picture from a 1972 Boating mag. (content-106)is the boat I have. Except mine has the motor set down in the hole behind the passengers with a moulded cover over it so it is completely closed in.

Any ideas on more info? I contacted the Warren,Michigan chmber of commerce and Better Business Bureau. Couldn't get any information on Marine Unlimited. Looking to get an operaters manuel and motor hp. Hoping to do a hull up restoration. Everything is there but need to be cleaned-up and/or replaced. Thanks for any HELP, Mike.

You get the numbers off that outboard and someone here can tell you all about it.

Any way you can get some pics taken of your boat Mike? They will be most helpful to the "ID Squad" here, get as many angles as possible. As Bob (RL) stated, the serial number off the motor will help ID that as well. ;)

Hi Mike,

You've asked for help and I'm here to help. I'll stop by and take that project off your hands so you won't have to worry about it anymore. Just Kidding, Mike!

That boat is bad!!! I can see any one of us getting into serious trouble on any given lake with that. Great find! Should you decide its not to your liking, please look me up!!! Like I said, I'm here to help!

From what I can see of the motor, it looks like a Johnson 22-cubic inch powerhead and lower unit. It could be either 20 or 25 hp, assuming it is the same vintage as the boat (1972).

I think you should put a small block Chevy where the seat is and sit where the outboard was.
