The first thing I thought when I saw that pic was red boat, white snow and blue car. How patriot is that?? ;)

Good point Neil, red, white & blue. I love it!

To add insult to injury, it is 31 degrees and the temp is still dropping at this hour. Didn't I already say "Bah"?

Just yesterday I pulled the plugs on the I/O motor of the Sabrecraft.
The wife wants to go out one more time before the snow that sticks gets here. Inboard or outboard for the last trip, I will just have to flip a coin.

Boating season was so short I even wonder if it happened at all.

Yeah, we're supposed to get plastered here tomorrow too. Just a great way to end October. Rained all of August, Irene hit August 28, Lee a week later, more rain, more rain, now snow and freezing weather. Just wonderful. I need to get a portable garage up before the snow hits the fan tomorrow too. Didn't I already say "Bah"?

The best time for fishing has just stared here in SE TX. One of the many reasons that it is hard to find antique motors down here in as good as shape up north is that down here we run our boats 12 months a year

Heck when I was younger I water skied all year long (Even in Jan and Feb)...I did use a wet suit, ...Did not do much good for my face hands and other area that was not covered....and the first few sec that you jump in the water

Virginia can be nice for boating even through December. We will sometimes get nice warm spells. Cold snap due this weekend. Hope to go out rock fishing in November.

Re:Boating season is OVER! 12 years 11 months ago #48760

keniskora,

late last fall, when i was staying in Prince William County,VA i stopped for coffee at a little store in the SW corner of the county & was shown a rockfish that was LONGER than the tailgate of the Toyota PU, that it was laying on, was wide.

the man, who caught it, said that he had caught it "free lineing" a live "bigger then hand-sized" Norfolk Spot, east of Tappahannock & on a 7ft popping rod & Ambassador 5500 w/20lb test mono.- he said that it took an hour to get it landed!

all i could say was: WOW! what a trophy!

yours, satx

Yeah, they get pretty big in the bay. They come in the Fall, best around Thanksgiving. There's a site more about fishing called "tidalfish.com" that has nice pictures and an active forum.

BTW, I wonder what people use their "glassics" for mainly. Think it would be a good topic for a "poll".

Those two cats got the "Lemon Pepper Treatment" and let me tell you the meat came right off the bone. I had two catfish skeletons on the plate. The only reason I brought them home was because I was hungry for catfish and they were the right size. This is what we had today. John Gibson should have moe than me and it's still coming. Trees still have leaves.

Re:Boating season is OVER! 12 years 11 months ago #48939

Out west in Wyoming it has come to an end for me too. :(

The first pic was taken one week ago on my farewell voyage. I took a pic of the last remaining dock before it was pulled.

The following day I prepped the boat for a long hibernation.

Then the snow hit mid week. It's from the same storm that you guys got this weekend.

It's time to wake up the snowmobile under the blue tarp to the left of the boat. I guess that's something to get excited about. ;)

We used to live in Rawlins ('82-'87), but didn't have much $. Always wanted a boat to fish Seminoe Reservoir, just never worked out. Wish I still lived out there, I loved it!

Yea, I never have fished Seminoe or Pathfinder either. Although,I have done a bunch of fly-fishing on the North Platte from south of Saratoga to up by Casper. My boat mainly sees southeastern Wyoming water.

Interesting, back in the 80's, I would visit an elderly freind's relatives there and pass through there on business trips with my Dad quite often.

I fished Seminoe from shore or through the ice. Best ice fishing I did was on some shallow alkali lakes over by Medicine Bow. Catch monstrous trout through the ice there, lay flat on my stomach and watch them cruise around a few feet beneath me. Had to use 2# test line or they'd spook. I used to run over past Sinclair to the N. Platte all the time, catch my limit of natural run rainbow, cutthroats and mixed rainbow/cutthroats in less than an hour and be back home with a 1/2 dozen 16" fish, all nice pink flesh too. I loved Wyoming, mostly for the great people really. You're a lucky fellow to live there.

It's finally getting pleasent here. Wake up in the low 70's highs in the low-mid 80's. I think it's great to take a cruise after a snow like that. The world seems to always look better from the water.

That's sad, could be January. Watching the weather channel they say it's a "wet" snow which in my neck of the woods means that it's too warm for the lakes to freeze so you're still good to stretch out the season. Put 'er in 4X and git out there for one last run, that would be a picture. Snow on the shoreline with a glassic in the water.

Tilting my motor down has been the extent of my winterizing so far...

Was looking forward to a last ride, but doesn't look like it's going to happen. Had a roof to do on the last good weekend and couldn't turn down the $$$.

First hard freeze last week, but no show. Go figure...

Gil you guys got the big pile. How is the power out there. We just got it back this AM after losing it quickly once it started on Saturday. Our snow was about 12 inches compacted down into 5 to 6 inches of heavy wet slush. My 13 HP Ariens Sno Blower Pro Series was useless. What a mess. Temps into the 60's this coming weekend!

Re:Boating season is OVER! 12 years 11 months ago #49037

Hey Jim , we didnt lose power at all just a couple flickers . the reason i think is the crippling ice storm we had a few years back cleared all the weak trees from near the lines , was out of power for a week that time . my little 7 hp blower wasnt even worth starting against this stuff , my neighbor saw us struggling and plowed us out .
