Seems the theory in the late 50's and 60s was to trap water under the boat to pop it up out of the water higher.

Funny how theories of hull design went from curious and innovative to all Deep Vs in the 80's to the ever present, mundane, pontoon lacking any design sense what-so-ever. A mobile living room on water is not a boat.

I have one of these tucked away in the shop waiting.
Are you considering this one?
I am into mine for right at $400 with the trailer if that helps any.
Looks as though they are at $600 on this one.
Looks to be about the same condition as mine.
It is here in the Glassic Library.

I would like to have one, it is a very cool boat in my eyes. My wife has written permission to put me out of her misory if I get anything that is not on the must have list. Thought someone else might like it.

Hydroplanes have an interesting history. The 1st American one flew 100 years ago last month. At the time airplanes were not dependable, no airports and they had trouble getting enough altitude to clear things like trees. A few had the idea it would be safer to fly just above the water with a boat on the bottom to take off, land and just incase. The early ones could take off and land in 5' seas.

i think my devil ray qualifies as a 3 point hydro hull if you look at it closely.
as for the pontoon we just took my father in laws out yesterday for the last time this year,my mother in law hates deep water but feels comfortable on it,plus its great to fish off of,even if we didnt get a bite, lol, john

\"too soon old,too late smart\" my pap

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.“
