Just saw a late 50's NOS Airguide speedometer on Ebay. Bid is at $10.50 with 20 hrs left. Seems like a great deal for anyone doing some resto.

That's an excellent buy, but the price will probably skyrocket right at the end, Brian. (I've seen those go in the $150 range!) I think they call it "Sniping" or something like that, but who knows? You gotta hope you get lucky sometimes, right? :)

I have never had any luck buying anything like that off ebay. As much as I try to be right there bidding at the last minute, I never win. I've tried for a few bow lights over the last year for instance, never had any luck, so I don't even bother anymore, too frustrating!

I saw that also, right after I bought an nos one locally for $45. But, I am still happy, I have it and you never know what the outcome will be on Ebay at the very end. Now, I an having a hard time drilling that 3 1/4" hole in the dash. I guess just drill it and get over it.

$45 is a good a great deal for NOS, Dave. Those speedos retailed for $8.95 in the 50's. Good luck on drilling the dash. Maybe start a hole and then use a jigsaw for the big hole. Putting in a flush mount would scare me, too.

What I do when I have to drill a large hole in a crucial spot is take a thin piece of plywood like 1/4" and drill a hole in that then clamp it where you are going to put your hole on the dash and use that as a guide to keep the hole saw from jumping around ? Works for me ?

Bham-rick. I sure like that idea about the plywood. Believe me, it has me a tad nervous drilling this hole in this very nice piece of mahogany. Thanks for the tip!

Im a sniper...I usually win what Im after unless someone is willing to go higher than I am willing to spend

the trick is to use 2 browsers on the item you want to bid
on one browser, enter the highest amount your willing to spend on the item and click "place bid" your now taken to the final confirmation of your bid page..you will see the "confirm bid" button
....you are now ready and poised to submit your bid at the last 10 seconds of the auction

now go to the other browser thats open at the item up for auction....in the last hour of the auction there is a seconds countdown timer......when the timer says 15 seconds left...go to the "confirm bid" browser count to 5sec and click "confirm bid"

ebay will now bid by proxy the lowest amount it will take for you to win and providing your bid was the highest entered , no one has the time to outbid you

additionally you should know if you were willing to bid $20, make your bid $21.55, too many others will bid $20 and the first $20 bid wins, youd be surprised how many times you win by that extra $1.55

You can also google "Free Ebay Sniper" that will offer free programs that will automate everything for you...Im an adrenalin junkie so I prefer the manual submissions with the shakes and my heart racing as I count down the last 60 sec :woohoo:

hope this helps someone

It also works real good if you have to enlarge a hole. If you have to go to the next size with a hole saw or Forsner bit it's almost impossible without a template to put over the old hole, them you can adjust from side to side of up or down. I love exotic woods !

I beg to differ. That's not a good deal, it's a great deal!
(Hope you were the one who won the bidding, Brian.)

Great tips on cutting holes in the dash guys, thanks for sharing. That's a nerve-wracking task, no doubt!

I didn't want to say anything until the auction closed- But I am selling those on behalf of s friend... It's part of a HUGE stash of mostly new and/or great condition boat hardware that is going to be sold off to help pay for a restoration project...

That one WAS a great deal- BUT it looks like it might be relisted- The buyer sent me an email right after it closed asking if it came with the wiring that he needed- he thought it was an electrical gauge of some kind...

I've got many more... Including some even nicer ones- As well as clocks, Tachs, Etc

Andrew:
I am looking for a NOS airguide speedometer. I need the one that has the hookup on the back face of the speedo. Also looking for the tubing and "peto tube" portions. Send me a pm if you have one you would like to sell.

Thanks.

You can still buy the Peto tube and attachment at a Marine supply house like Jamestown supply or west marine it's nothing special.
