TOPIC: MFG owners group?????

friends,

as i'm buying a 1971 MFG Caprice I/O runabout to restore (most likely tomorrow, 24SEP11), i'm wondering if there is an "owner's club" for MFG boats.
(tried "googling" for such a group & found ZILCH.)

iboats.com has a MFG specific forum listed on there main forum page about halfway down.There are many owners of MFGs on this site as well.Might be something on Nicklecityclassics.com

perhaps then, FIBERGLASSICS.COM is the place to START a MFG Owner's Club.
(long ago, i was a charter member of another "marque club" & learned that cooperation among members was FAR better than most any other "help".)

There is a G3 dedicated forum here.So you may ask the moderators to add MFG,providing there is enough interest.I own two MFGs,[neither water ready], but personally like posting on the the "Main Forum" as there is greater feedback.The negative part MAY be that soon every group of owners will want there "own forum". This may have a tendency to disconnect some in the long run as they will stick with there own group.I rarely go on the G3/Aluminum/Wood sites.I do hit up the engine forums and that is set up perfectly.Keeps all the questions on one brand without having to search around.MOST FAQ's on the main forum are generic in nature which most of the hulls and hardware are to begin with.

there was an mfg site once upon a time. i think it was spun off from the fg but died several years ago. can't remember what happened to the materials that were gathered,perhaps they came back to the fg.

i guess that i wasn't very clear about what i'm thinking.

i'm suggesting that we START a nationwide MFG OWNER'S CLUB right here on FG, though NOT necessarily affiliated with this website & promote the group to ALL owners of MFG boats/

satx,your thinking was perfectly clear. mine,on the other hand,may not have been. i appreciate you enthusiasm for the mfg marque but before you invest your time and energy into promoting,developing,a mfg site,catagory,page,one did exist and died from lack of interest. there was alot of good info on the site,company history,sales literature. i found the story about the lyman influence very interesting and have wondered what the outcome might have been if the two companies had worked together. it is said that if you do not know history,you will repeat it again. i was just giving you a heads up that a mfg site had existed and failed.

i was REALLY thinking of a NATIONAL club for ALL MFG boats, regardless of year AND to get us started here on FG, as we have at least 30 owners.
(i used to be a member of an OWENS owners group & we had LOTS of members, who helped each other.)

to all MFG owners/fans,

i see NO good reason to "reinvent the wheel", so i suggest that we take a page out of the first days of The Owens Register (unless someone has a better idea) & appoint an "exploratory committee" of 5 owners to serve until we have about 100 members & can elect "real officers".

anyone have a BETTER plan??

i have an MFG. :)

but i think it a waste of space , my reasons...
post in the MFG forum repair of motor or glass ,and some body is going to say "post this on the main forum , you will get more answers"
so then questions will be asked twice.

Kudos for thinking big. Might I suggest crawling before running though. Perhaps a small amount of Server space here is needed to discuss the possibilities.
There are lots of MFGs out there. How many owners would participate needs to be seen. A national registry would be a good place to start.

Just my 2 cents worth.. :laugh:

I think there could be a place for it. It doesn't have to be only about restoration. Just as the G3 group isn't only about that. So, we will put it up and see what direction it goes in...
