i had sold my father in law,a 1995 rude 9.9 with 15 hp carbs,(horse power restrictions around here)for his pontoon boat, you can see justhow much he went through with it,it was running great but thn it quit,no spark.
he took it to a motor mechanic around here and after 611 bucks it still quit working,we it turns out it was a bad/broken wire in the plug that plugs into the motor,i was going to pay him back for it if it coulnt get fixed.
we took it to the lake yesterday and it ran great,as you can see by the pics of my father in law,and pics of my mother in law and my wife running the helm for the 1st time, lol also a pic of steve,he finally got the boat to go around the lake, lol,my wife is the 1st 2 pics. mom in law father in law

John,

I read the other thread. Awful. In the future, get the factory manual, and try the marineengine.com forum. 1995 is kind of on the modern side for me, but those factory manuals are great.
There is only one thing worse than in intermittent problem, and that is replacing a bad part with another bad part.

Is that a 2 or 4 stroke 9.9?
Even at $611 I don't think he charged you much for labor considering all the parts he replaced.

I learned a similar lesson with the first computer I owned. Charged me $700 for a nonexistant virus! 6 hrs. of labor and a new HDD.
Now I can build a pc with my eyes closed.

Those pics make me want to get out one more time.
Only twice on the water all summer.

John, glad to see another problem fixed. He can look forward to a trouble free season next year.

Jim, you got out twice as much as I did this year. ONCE, what the heck is going on for a couple of boat lovers. It's like the handyman who dosen't have time to fix his own house.

John, Good news on your FILs boat. Hope that solves the problem. All of you guys have me beat as to days in the water this year. Currently I'm at zero but I'm not complaining, just anxious for next spring.

Glad you found the problem and fixed it.
That's the stuff that can drive you crazy.
If I don't get out at least once a day I start getting withdrawal (sp)
