TOPIC: registration without a title in TX?

friends,

Texas now requires boats, trailer & ALL engines to be TITLED now. - i have NUMEROUS pre-1965 OB motors (including a 1925), that i've aquired here & there over my army career BUT none are "titled".

anyone got a plan on how to get "legal" after all these years?

Do not worry about any motor that is older then 1996 (less you boat on Lake Houston) We have talked to many officers with the TP&W and they are not going to worry with old motors...... Now Lake Houston is covered by City of Houston Police

If you want you can register you motors at $50 a hit...all you have to do id fill out the form and go to the office and give a statement that the motor has never been register...then each time the motor is sold it will cost the buyer $50 to get the name changed...

Well it is the first meet that I am sponsoring so there will not be ant contest. It will be more a get together and talk boats and run boats on the lake. It will be geld on south Shore park. There are camping and RV sites still open...(All cabins are booked already)

There is no charge for the meet, however there is a park fee

I have Hinze BBQ bringing out lunch for Sat. You need to let me know if you are planing on eating and there will be a charge (just to cover the cost of the food) for the meal

If all goes well I plan on sponsoring a meet there every spring and fall for the lake is not effected by drought. Later meets we will have contest and fun events...The better 1/2 can go into Smithvill or Bastrop and go antiquing

BTW my dates above are off ...Oct 7. 8. and 9th

It is my pleasure to announce the Lake Bastrop Wet Meet on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 7, 8, & 9, 2011. The meet will be held at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop. Sleeping Cabins are available that will accommodate five people. The Cabins have A/C and Heat, and a BBQ Grill outside. There is a common bathhouse facility. There is a two night minimum rental on weekends. Individual reservations are on a first come first served basis at 512-389-8900. Make your reservation early as all cabins are open to the public, the Texas Chapter has no hold on them. (we're in San Antonio, as you've likely guessed,near Retama racetrack.)

IF i buy the '65 TemCraft Riviera runabout, i'll bring it along & "get it wet".
(i'm also "looking at"a 1974 Glastron 21ft Sierra w/170 Volvo-Penta.)

Great...We have another member that will be there that works In New Braunfels and lives near San Marcos...the two of you need to get to know each other being that yall live so near each other (as in TX way of being near)

how about for OLD boats W/O titles? = the reason that i ask is that i talked to a guy at the SATX gunshow this afternoon, who has a 15ft aluminum Lone Star ski-boat that has been sitting on their family farm for years & years. - evidently, it was abandoned on the property BEFORE they bought the farm in the 1970s.
("Jerry" said that he would like to "fix it up" for his grandkids. - i told him that i would ask "the experts"on FG.)

personally, i think that the TX legislature needs to REPEAL the "titling law", as it pertains to boats/motors/trailers over 25 years old AND reduce the title cost for used OB motors to 10.oo or less.

It can be done and with one trip to the TP&W office...however it is a bit harder...I did it on a 1979 Jon boat
