I am new to this site and I think I will become a long time member. I just picked up a 1968 Hydrodyne tournament skier. This boat was bought by my father in law new. It has been sitting in a field with no cover for over 10 years. It is a total project in which I have a mission to restore. Everything I have read says this is a rare boat and worth restoring. My father in law said it had came orginal with a Ford 289 v8 interceptor. The serial number is LAZ 403334F268. Any thoughts or information will be appreciated

Wow! don't know anything about it but I tell you this I LIKE IT! WOWzerz!

Some of our geezers will be up at like 3:00AM and I would think you will get some info by then. other than that. we have a large re searchable library on this site. You may try the Reserach Tab at the top of the page and see what you can come up with. Surprised to see a 3 letter HIN on a 1968...

I have been told that only 3000 of these boats have been built between 1965 and 1978 ?

Thanks for all of your input so far. Sounds like many of you have not seen a boat like this before. I was wondering if anyone could put a value on its current condition and if it was fully restored. I am trying to get a feel for how much I should put into this restoration project. Im sure it will cost more than what it is worth. Any thoughts ? I have more pictures if it would help

As far as value goes it really comes down to what someone is willing to pay you for it. The amount of money involved in the restoration becomes irrelevant if you plan on keeping it. I think most folks will tell you it can cost more restoring a lot of these than what you can get selling it, if you count all your time. I would say since it's a family boat and is remaining that way, does it really matter? It's a very cool boat but I wouldn't think a couple of thousand being made makes it that rare. A couple of hundred at best with only a handful or so remaining is rare.

That's just my opinion, others can jump in. I think it's a great looking boat, unique design and looks very fast just sitting on the trailer. It should be a great project look awesome when your done.

Waterwings , I think you are 100% correct. I know its not the value.I have a great interest in this boat and I will restore it. Its been in my wife's famliy and they have so many memories using this boat in thier ski show. This type of memories does not have a value. I appreicate your comments. I will start the restoration project and I will post pictures as I go. My father in law tells me stories of this boat pulling 12 skiers and 4 barefoot at a time. This restoration will be for him and our famliy

Holy cow, 12 skiers and 4 barefoot! Now that's power baby! Can't wait to see the pics as you restore that beauty.

My father in law said it was all power and not built for speed. On the Hydrodymers.com there is pictures of 20 or more skiers being pulled. I am having a hard time finding any parts for this boat. Any suggestions ?

Seems as though there is a member here with a Hydrodyne. I cannot for the life of me think of the thread though.
Yup found it.
Search Hydrodyne and look at Restored 1965 Hydrodyne.

what kind of parts are you looking for? drivetrain, interior, deck hardware? and then what brand? volvo, mercrusier, interceptor(ford),chev, attwood, jervis, nautalloy? if your family has pics of it when it was new post away, then people here can see what it is that you are looking for. i have had a couple of dynes and still have a 67 1700 series, but have not messed with the comp ski hulls. i think brian lawson mentioned here once, that he did some work on one of the compitition hulls for a friend. the people that really know these boats are on the hydrodyners site. now if you are looking for a ski pole and barefoot beam,i can fix you up with that.

"LAZ" is a state assigned code for unknown manufacturer. The
"LA" is for the state of Louisiana" and the "Z" is for unknown manufactuer. This confrorms to the US Coast Guard mandated MIC (manufacturers identification code) which went into force for the first time in November 1972. So this code was assigned to this particular boat sometime after November 1972. That would also indicate it was built prior to that time.
