TOPIC: Help Figuring out year?

Hello, I recently picked up this Duo X15 runabout. I believe its a 1963 according to some brochures I've seen and the serial # on the boat ends in 63. I don't know much about the old HIN numbers. The serial number is 54763. The paperwork I was given doesn't have a year on it.

Bare with me, I'm trying to upload photos, they seem to be too large of a file. I will post them when I'm finished resizing.

Each boat manufacturer had their own unique hull ID/VIN/serial number system. There was no uniform system required until November 1972.

Who knows what the Duo used. Maybe 54763 indicates the 547th boat made in 1963. But maybe the 5 is indicating the year 1965? Or maybe 5 is the model number or maybe a code for the length, 4 is the year (1964) and it was the 63rd boat made that year?????

Maybe write a letter to Vic Porter at Formula in Decatur, IN. He was owner of Duo Marine. He might recall the system that firm used.

Did they give you a code to decipher the DUO hull IDs?
