TOPIC: mystery boat 1962

mystery boat 1962 14 years 5 months ago #4210

Is anyone familiar with the company/boats of TRIUMPH STORECRAFTERS INC.? I have one of these extremely rare old boats and I am really having trouble finding info on it. I know its an 18' sport runabout. It came with a 215hp 312ci ford interceptor engine and a v-drive. It is supposed to be very fast(70 mph on the water). in 1961 they sold for $5000.00 delivered. What is this thing worth???

baborz, Welcome to FG. The question

What is this thing worth???

would depend on a lot of variables like hull condition, floor/stringer/transom condition, motor/outdrive condition, overall appearance, etc... Can you post some pics so the good folks here can check it out? There are some very knowledgeable guys and gals that frequent this site, I'm sure someone would be glad to help you out with your appraisal.

Let me suggest you check out a post in the support forum about posting pics, it'll save you some time and aggravation in the long run. ;)

Boy, do I know about that boat ... my father was a partner in Triumph Storecrafters and headed up the boat building division for several years.

70 mph is too fast, reality was about mid-40's, they're pretty touchy and can flip easily. "fins" at stern were molded from the rear quarter panel of '59 Chevy's

Do you still have the boat? Image is of all three of the models, 18', 29', 36' I still have one of the 36, its in a storage yard and needs complete rebuild.

Welcome aboard T36, glad to have you join us. When are you going to drag the 36' out for restoration? Floating anything now?

My goal is to get her ready to be my semi-retirement "condo", so about 3 years and 200K of restoration later we should be ready :)

Would be great to have a written history and some original literature for the Library section if you would like to contribute.

I saved this photos of a 1961 Triumph brochure from an ebay auction long ago:

Wow! A Price List! I do not have the ad you show, but have several original tear sheets of others,as well as many pics, including the pics from the christening party of the first 29' Triumph which was launched in the pool of the Shamrock Hilton hotel. The Shamrock boasted that it had the largest hotel pool in the world! I'd love to write a history ... I spent every summer at the plant with my dad, hung out on the production lines and in the drafting room and lofts with the architects. My favorite time of day was lunch, when my dad let me choose which of the demo boats we would take to lunch!
