Out for a drive today, thought I'd check on a few local Glassics.

Knew about the Cutter for a few years, went and checked and still there for $200(check out the Wisco Cadillac in the background!)....

Checked out a '59 Aristo Craft Funliner with pretty Merc, no hardtop, knew about her for years and couldn't buy her, now hail and sun damage has taken it's toll(she used to be beautiful), now owner says might sell for $500....

Found a weird Sportcraft on a nice Holsclaw trailer, abandoned house, neighbor says probably can get it cheap or free:

I know of more to check on, but haven't had time.

Are there wheels below that Aristocraft or is it just buried up to the armpits.

It's buried up.

10 years ago that boat was purchased off of a carport in an old but ritzy subdivision and came to the very spot it's sitting in now - amazingly it's still attached to the truck that brought it there 10 years ago, it hasn't moved either. It was a one owner boat, the elderly owner had bought it new and kept it under the carport it's entire life. I'm not sure what happened to the hardtop. Believe me, it was a gorgeous boat 10 years ago. She could be gorgeous again, but the time and expense would be way up there. Why people hold onto something for so long without selling it until it's almost ruined is beyond me.

And how about that nice big white Merc. Love them. Is it a 700 or maybe 800?

That would be an 850. It looks to be in very good condition.

Grab that Merc. If it is an 850 it is the last of the white towers.
Just picked up a 63 850 shorty FGS. Beautiful motors.

That Cutter's going to have one hell of a hook from those concrete blocks and that Aristocraft makes me sick the way it's been left out like that. Now it's junk, but that merc looks so right on it. I believe if/when my johnson quits, I might "MERC-KER-RIZE" my Aristo. :)

I decided to go back and check out the Cutter and give it a good once-over. She hadn't been on the blocks very long at all, she used to sit on some old tires so her hull wasn't hogged or damaged from an improper lay-up. After seeing how solid she was, and how much potential was there, I decided it was time to save her. You guys know as well as I do how hard it is anymore to score a finned Glassic for cheap, let alone find one just sitting around, so it's best to get 'em while we still can. Here she is home after a quick spray-off. I gutted the crappy custom interior to reveal a nice, solid hull:

John, yes the bow light is stainless Vollrath, as well as all the other deck hardware including the step pad frames. I noticed the stainless first thing and thought "Why didn't everybody else go that route back in the day?"...

I'm still contemplating the Aristo - that beautiful Merc is calling my name.

I did save yet another weird Glassic yesterday, I'll post a thread on it as I can't seem to ID it, and the trailer has way cool streamline fenders.

finatic,i think you will find that cutter is one of the best built boats out there, very thick hulls and deck.
im just wondering why yours doesnt have a splashwell with a hatch, its definatly newer then 1958 because that year the bow deck was thinner, they made it higher in 59,and added the hatch.hmm i was just thinking...it might be a 1957 the year they started ,heck i dont know the splashwell has me confused?????.john

as for vollrath they also made surgical instruments and stainless silverware, also gravy boats, lol.
i have a vollrath viking steering wheel on mine and if i can ever get it to come off of the shaft i promised to fix it up and give it away to someone, since their vollrath wheel was too far gone to fix,now i cant remember who i was ,so if you are that person reads this ,please remind me who i promised it to,lol, john

John, yes I am liking the Cutter more and more. Seems like they built them to last, lots of quality workmanship here. As for the splashwell, I wondered the same thing. It's apparent that it was made this way at the factory. It must be an odd model because I can't find another one like it anywhere.

John, depending on the seat layout, the one finfanatic found is either a "Skier 15" or a "Como 15". Those models had a small splashwell without a hatch.

Seems like the open splashwell makes the fins look bigger for some reason.

If I get the boat, I'm going to snag that Merc off first thing, then the trailer.... the rest will then be up for grabs - will let you know.

Found another Glassic today, and she's an cool one. 1964 DUO 18ft I/O....I absolutely LOVE big deep boats(tanks!) like this, and turquoise to boot!!! Gelcoat is gorgeous! A few scratches but NO cracks, should buff out and be nice and shiny. Of course problem with engine as usual, cracked head reportedly(water in oil), but who knows. Steering is smooth and proper, metal steering wheel is cool. Reportedly running and on lake in '05, engine and compartment is clean as a pin.

Believe me, this thing is wide and deep and built like a proverbial tank. Engine cover spans entire width of rear deck, and probably weighs at least 50 lbs - takes some real effort to lift. The impression I got was this boat was almost overbuilt, way WAY thick glass and gelcoat. I can buy for 650(and believe me, I'm tempted!), includes trailer(original?) with new wheels and tires.

LOVE her lines, and especially the bow treatment! ...

Close to where the DUO sits is this junkyard....look closely, there's a big hardtop Glassic in there poised like a missile getting ready to launch...

Finfanatic you gotta be single with 30 acres of storage room and a pole building at least 60 X 100. What's the saying, so many boats and so little time.
Choose one and let the rest for some of us.

I wish I had that much space.

I would love to have acres and acres of pole sheds and loads of money to fill them with Glassics of all kinds, saving them for our future Glassic aficionados.

Ah well, a man can dream, right? LOL

Is there a twelve step program for this sort of thing? :(

Put the '57 Merc and pistol grip controls on the Cutter. I've decided to sell the boat, motor, controls and trailer as an entire package. I'll be posting it to the Glassifieds tomorrow evening with more info and much better pics. Going to ask 750 for all.

Gotta make room for more Glassics!

If anyone's wondering why the Cutter package didn't show up on Glassifieds, I sold it before I even had the chance to put it on there!

I have to say a big THANK YOU to the Fiberglassics forum. What an incredible resource we all have here.

Wow! TN has some jewels hidden around in these old barns! GREAT find on this one...would love to see more pics. Around 500 is a great deal - at first glance I would say BUY. Would love to see more pics. $1,800 in '57 was a big chunk of change. Looks very similar to the Arkansas Traveler I had a few years ago, same bow treatment, very similar lines:

..FIN.: Taking a Double look in the web LIBRARY . Your pic seems to match exactly a 1957 brochure.... For 1958 do not see many fins, &
quite close brochure to what I posted above outside of the barn..!!
The fine print in the 57 brochure mentions 12 or more models, so
not a expert here. I wish we had a dashboard pic of the barn boat
& showing seat bottoms.. If they are not ripped at all, would be a killer find..... Would be interesting to photocopy the B.Of S.. Maybe like a Chevrolet back then / when , if you bought 2nd week of Sept it was a 58 model ..?

The Sea King has a hull design that looks just like a Whitehouse. The Whitehouse brands were made in Ft. Worth about 5 miles from Montgomery Wards (Sea King) purchasing department on W. 7th ST. www.fiberglassics.com/wiki/images/f/fb/BHBPHOTO18.JPG
