Check out this spiffy little Norris Craft that I just dug out of the poison ivy for 50 bucks....and oh my, what's that hanging on her derriere with a beautiful prop and good compression? B)

...good thing poison ivy doesn't bother me...

...thought about fixing her up, but unfortunately a wrong move with a bush hog earlier in the year had already sealed this little Norris Craft's fate. Too bad I couldn't get to her sooner before she became what looks like something off the set of "Jaws"...

Apparently the trailer was needed for something else several years ago and the boat was slid off. The Merc was reportedly running strong at that time.

Now to find the perfect candidate to hang this 75 on so I can go bust some docks....

I could definitely find a use for that hull if your close enough to, and want to part with it... ?? I have a restored '58 Norris and second may be needed now....

Finfanatic,
I love the bow light, looks just like the one on my Clipper. What kind of shape is it in? I'd be Interested in it if it isn't all pitted up. Drop me a line through here at Fiberglassics.

LOL I wish!

I thought it was really cool as well. I've seen a lot of these Norris Crafts with the wings but I haven't seen but a few of this style.

Hey Bob, yeah it's fairly pitted up from sitting out in the weather so long. It's neat that it still has it's original flag rings hanging in the mast tho.

that's an all to often fate of an old classic. You should take the light and turn it into a lamp for the house, sure would be a conversation starter. for $50, how do you sleep at night...lol. really nice find.

I have repaired the old cast parts that are pitted. Just did a hood ornament for a 49 Mercury. I refinish it in Chrome Powder Coat. It's shy of being chrome, but it shines and looks better then pitted. It's still a long drawn out process, but can be done.

Great find! And, if that punch in shown is all there is too it, and you have all the pieces, that's a pretty easy repair. That hull can be fixed as good as new. Great motor!

I'm with crosby on this one.
If you are going to paint, that looks to be a fairly easy fix.
Did it go all the way through?

Holy cow! I thought I was good at finding sows ears. That can be turned into a silk purse. Is the rip abobe the water line? For $50 I'd snap it in a heartbeat.

Boy that molded interior seat layout is sure similar to my 57 Custom Craft...hard to tell with these pics. Cool boat and that motor is more than worth everything. Never seen a set of controls like that.

Well you guys have me convinced, I gotta fix her up now. The rip is above the waterline and since it can apparently be fixed this unusual little Norris Craft should live again. I had offered it to Norris58 but the fact that he lives over 6 hours away made it a no-go for him, so I'm getting excited about working on it myself now.

I popped the cover on the '57 Marathon 6 today and aside from the expected cobwebs it looked to be in really good shape. The pull on the cord feels like good compression. The original "Marathon 6" labels can still be seen under the old black paint. I was surprised to see this inspection sticker still on the side of the block!

The pistol grip controller is way cool and is the first I've owned. Anybody know what the little red light is behind the shifter? Neutral light?

Found this photo on the "History" link in the library section. Looks familiar!

Sweet, that'll be a great project. Glad you decided to keep her. Can't wait to see her done and back in her natural habitat, the water of course not the weeds. :woohoo:

Speaking of weeds, I'm going to go look at this tomorrow. Looks right now to be an early 60's Jetflight.

Glad you decided to keep her! That is not a bad fix really and really is worth it. Looks worse then it probably is. One of the things I found out when I restored mine is that they did not hesitate to use a lot of fiberglass and make it thick. You also can not seperate the top from the hull like a lot of boats can. They glassed it right together, with no rub rail. With no rub rail, it gives the boat a real smooth look, buta real pain around the docks. makes for a pain to replace the transom as well. Luckily mine was rock solid.

Performance is great. With my 1958 35-hp Johnson, I can reach about 30mph. The old school hull makes for interesting exeriences at higher speed turns though.

Can you read the serial number on it? It is stenciled on the side of the inside hull on the starboard side next to where your legs would be if driving.

I have a few Norris parts left over if you require anything specific.

Thanks, Norris58! I'm sure we'll be in touch. Your boat is beautiful, great job!

P.S. And Bobo, yes I hear the call of "Save me!" all the time with these old boats. Sometimes I think I need to get some good ear plugs. :)

Nice find.
I hope that Merc turns out to be a good one.
Had you known about this boat for a while, or did you just happen onto it?

Hey Neil, I had known about this one for a while. It was hidden in the woods good enough that I knew I could take my time on it. Figured it was time to stop putting it off and go visit the owner and strike a deal. I let him price it, and needless to say, he was good to me.

Ear Plugs are no good .. Its a Telepathic thing ..We are defenceless once you get the fever . I keep saying this is my last boat . A guy called this week end .. Here you like old boats type of thing ..2 hours later Im towing home the Biggest Ugliest boat you ever saw .But its got a sweet running not bad looking 1963 Mercury 650 on it and a pretty decent trailer . $75 ..How can you say no to that ..If you want to see 20 foot of absolutely Pure Ugly ill post pics of it ..Old Merc runs like Carl just tuned it up himself ..
