TOPIC: Trim Question

Trim Question 13 years 1 month ago #40109

Laying out the "master plan" for restoring the 1960 Holiday 15' I just picked up. Not much info online for this model, so I'm looking for opinions.

The boat has metal trim that frames the red painted area & "Holiday" logo. Attached with screws that penetrate the hull & stick out into the interior approx 1/2". A great place to scratch the passengers & rip boat cushions, etc. The screws don't have any factory paint on them.

Any thoughts as to whether the trim might have been added later in the boat's life? I like the look, but the same effect could be achieved with red paint and silver outline, and there would be less chance of injury, and no holes in the hull for potential leakage...

thanks, Jon

An option you might want to look into is auto body trim.
The stuff comes in rolls, look like chrome and is self sticking. It's vynal(?) no screws.

Either way sounds better than screws poking thru the hull and into the interior! Double jeopardy, leaks and injury, IMHO. I'm like you Jon, wonder if that was original or did somebody add that later?

Jon, If it were me, I would simply remove the trim (and polish it), pitch the rusty sharp screws and reinstall with short stainless oval head machine screws and nylock nuts. A little clear silicon could be used on the back side of the trim if you are concerned about leakage. I don't think that stick-on auto trim would last on the side of the boat very long (fenders and docks rubbing on it will pop it right off)...just my opinion though.
