TOPIC: I have been bitten by the bug!!!

I have been bitten by the bug!!! 13 years 2 months ago #38543

Ok, 3 days ago I did not own a boat and now I have two

1959 Crownline
1963 or 1964 Starcraft

The Starcraft appears to be a very solid boat...needs some motor work which I hope to have done this week so I can run the boat around the lake this week. Not sure the issues with it. It is a 63 or 64 johnson, It also needs new seats as well.

There may be some issues lurking underneadth though. for the most part the transome seems strong and the floor is as well, however there is a 2x3 inch area that is worn through to the wood. How can I fix this?

I am going to post some images that are of my concerns. There is also a very small crack in the washwell, does that equal bad transom? and after washing the boat I tilted the boat forward and vary dark water washed out of a side stringer(probably wrong word, it is the supprt for the beanch seats) should that be replace3d?

I have attached images of my concerns and would love to know your thoughts. I can also interested to know what I should buy to polish the boat up. It seams very solid and I wandered if a wax or rubbiong compound should be used.

Thanks to you all.

Good looking boat jd. If the exposed wood is still solid, I'd glass over it. If not, folks here will steer you right.jim

Click the Research / Restoration tab in the header at the top of the screen JD, there's some great articles on bringing back the shine on your gel coat. ;)

Jamestown sells a pretty nice kit for buffing and waxing. Around $200. Includes a variable speed buffer. I used it once. A lot of work but it looks much better.
