saw this on craigslist anyone think its a good deal for this price?

I just sold a ugly one for $250 that ran good and no controls . Had a bunch of paint chips .If he replaced the stator thats good I heard they fail on those motors more than normal . I wasnt crazy about the twin but thats just me .I would find a 4 Cyl . 50 hp if your boat can handle it . They just run smoother .In todays economy least in my area Ild make them a offer a bunch lower . Like $350 or $400 .My guide line on a Old motor in NICE shape is $10 a HP .Thats the going rate in my area .But youll find them much cheaper to .They can say no but leave them your number . Couple weeks later youll probaully get a call ..

i will keep looking and my boat says it can handle a 60 hp if i were to get a new 2 or 4 stroke what would be the horsepower that i could get because didnt they switch how they did the horsepower ratings?????? not sure but a good question im guessing. I hsve a merc 55e but the pistons had to be pounded out with a bar so i need new one they got all dented and they are 100 bucks a pop which is a bit crazy not even knowing if it will run if i get them

I have a 1970 (profile Pic) and a 1968 500 I may be willing to part with one of those and I will be heading to DC in August. No controlls and both lower units are... seepy but both run great. Just an option.. my shed is getting full...

he would only dicker to 125.. but it had controlls. and I dont need another one... Long shaft and the serial was in the 1970-->72 range I think it was the latter end of that range acording to Eastcoastmarineservice.com

i was also thinking of getting a brand new 50hp yamaha fourstroke if my parents will help me out with money a little bit haha. Dont know if that would make everyone here hate me or not but it would be simpler i think than a motor breaking down and it being hard to find parts. plus it would be alot better on gas.

LOL I cant blame you there, I will say my 1970 has been nothing but reliable, only issue I had is it needed a starter and I have to check the LU oil often. The 1968 I dont know I have only gone out with it once... witha slipping prop so that was no fun. I would go with a newer engine if I wanted to spend the money. And fuel ecconemy would be nice..
