I have found the perfect partner to my boat addiction; my wife. Here's how I do it...give her the boat. She has pride of ownership and I do all the work.

Another way is to name your boat after her, this is "Laura-Belle":

Headley, Dave,

Both very good ideas, now to see which one works, of course I'll have to get the new project completed first.

my wife is away on business but I did copy and paste this link and sent it to her. She just reminded me of the time I bought her a "pre-engagement boat" which was an Aristo Craft Torpedo with a Mark 30 on it. Something tells me she was disappointed I sold it. I think all these years of bliss being married to me has or should have evened that feeling of disappointment out..........

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.“

I did name the Aristo "The Mary K". K for her maiden name of Kiely. I am also most fortunate when it comes to support from the better half.

My wife just called me from the local scrap metal place. They had three outboards sitting in their "mixed metal" pile. They're now sitting in her car's trunk! A 1970-ish Johnson 4hp in decent shape, a 1950s Scott Atwater 16hp, missing the cowling, but turns over, and a 1940s Johnson HD-25 in very rough shape. And no, she does not have a sister...

On a side note, my wife has done the only actual repair my 1980 Johnson Stinger 75 has ever needed (since I rebuilt it in 1994). I was at work one afternoon when my brother was in town. He wanted to use my boat, but it wasn't running right. It had been developing a slight skip for about a week prior and I suspected it was the power pack. Over the phone, I described to my wife what the pack was, where it was and what she needed for tools. She removed the old one, took it down to the local marina, matched it up, bought a new one, and installed it. Motor hasn't skipped a beat since!
