TOPIC: How Is This Deck Hatch Supposed to be Fastened?

How Is This Deck Hatch Supposed to be Fastened? 13 years 2 months ago #36471

1968 Fabuglas Sea Gull

Front deck hatch is wired shut. I assume there is some hardware missing (or I'm just dense) because I cannot figure out how it is supposed to work. I'd like to be able to pop it open to allow easy reach to the deck fittings.

I was also considering hinging it, bit I'd like to know how it was before I start drilling holes.

There should be a set of slotted hatch hinges on the port qand starboard sides on the inside. They would have glide slots and tightening knobs so they can be tightened to keep the hatch closed when under way and loosened so the hatch can swing up when at rest and retigntened when up in order to keep the hatch open. You can buy nice stainless hatch hinges at "West Marine" be sure to measure for the amount of travel you need as they come in different lengths.Be very sure when mounting them that you position them correctly as you only want to drill once!
