TOPIC: Email Spammers Using FG Now( I think)

Heads Up. The scammers have found a new tool to get you to respond and then steal your email address for spamming. I received this email yesterday from a free email account(always the first warning):
Tanith @ fiberglassics.com(This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

"Hi i'm new to this site and I was wondering if you could tell me what the boat in your profile pic is?
I have something similar I inherited from my father and im trying to find out what it is...."

No way I am responding to this and if you receive anything similar I would suggest you not respond either.

These people are everywhere. Every time I post something on CL and put in bold print "Phone calls ONLY ...NO Emails" I still get at least a couple asking if it is still available etc.

Just my thought for the day...no back to painting the boat.

Bob...I think you are correct and Tanith I apologize but whenever I see free email accounts like yahoo directed my way I really hesitate to respond as I get so much spam I can't control it already.

I will answer your email now that I see you are legit. Nice old boat by the way but I don't think it is a Custom Craft like mine.

I replied with a link to one for sale and I immediately started to get spam for the first time on this email address

Its obviously now best not to reply unless they are a member with substantial posts

Yeah you do have to be careful. I have to admit I only have a free account also, on Yahoo.

I have several accounts. I keep my Comcast account unused because of the spam. I have a hotmail, and 2 g mail and my comcast account.

So far we've been low on the spammer radar. It has alot to do with people reporting forum spams quickly and quick removal/block of them. Email spam isn't likely unless you have posted your email address publicly in the forums. You CAN get a private MESSAGE across to another registered user but they can't get your email address unless you respond. So, if you do get a private message from @fiberglassics.com it came from them filling in the form here. You can always then check their profile and try to determine who they are and what they are about before responding.

Lol i was surfing the forums and found this post. Just so we are clear i am not a spammer. I Have had my yahoo email since i was in Jr High in the 90's. I am aware this is a old post but i just wanted to prove that i am not a spammer.

I had a message sent to my Home E-mail address and it said "jennylasuceuse" has added a message to your profile wall through Fibergalssics. I checked my profile and Profile wall and there is a long garbled kind of message posted on there with porno links and messages and I have no way of deleting it ?? Has anybody else gotten one of these ?

Rick, if you'll to to your wall, and move your cursor over the message, a delete button should appear below the message. (Don't click on anything in the message, of course!) That should let you delete the spam message. I haven't seen or heard of any on the profile wall(s), Ken should be able to delete that user (jennylasuceuse) if we let him know about it.

Thanks Mark -That worked , I was afraid to click on anything on the message. I thought the delete at the bottom was part of the message and was a trick ?? You never know with these guys !

Good advice, Mark. Let's hope they don't start doing this more. That user is deleted.

Everyone should have at least one "alternate" email address that they use for public-type activity. gmail is a great one & it's free. Yahoo also has free accounts. You only have to put in a factual (true) email address when you are signing up for a free account. This info will not be available to other persons. The rest of the "required " info can be completely made up. For example, when signing up - your name could be "john Q public, 1234 anywhere St., Nowhere, Alabama. Phone 909-123-456. Year of birth - 1909. Don't put a birth date in that will be under 18 years old. Then remember you have that account, and NEVER had out your real info to a stranger. This will help keep spam and evil stuff out of your "true" email account.

I received an e-mail last week stating "I saw your boat for sale, and want to know more about it"!!!!

My Boat is not, and has not EVER been for sale!! This spammer had to see it on one of the boat forums I would guess!! Its not on display anywhere else!!

I own 10 mailbox's and never use my ISP one.

I think I have a few others too. I never use the windstream one because it is my service provider.
