TOPIC: No Spark issue Chrysler 85hp

No Spark issue Chrysler 85hp 13 years 3 months ago #33527

Started diving into the engine. Hooked up battery and fresh tank of fuel and new plugs cranked over fine but did not fire. I performed the test recommended by TMD. no spark.
Put my meter on the coil heres my readings:
GND to + 0.3ohms
GND to center point = 600 ohms - this seems a bit low to me.

The coil is a motorola part number 70C44882B02

The points look clean and I learned that the rotor is connected to the shaft. The cap has 6 contacts inside. 3 are ones that the plug wires are connected to and 3 adjacent ones have copper strips that run up the sides. This was strange since in cars the plug wires are connected to the copper strips inside the cap. Is this how two-stroke caps are supposed to be? The small contacts which were connected to the wires were worn in a U shape. The other 3 connected to the copper strips looked new.

I will look at timing settings next. Flywheel is marked with 0 and 36. When at 0 TDC rotor points at cyl 1 (top cylinder?)

Just trying to learn about this engine. I have a copy of the Clymer shop manual I am working through.

Thanks for the input.

1969

I am strongly leaning toward replacing points, cap wires and going with a 12v coil/condenser with L86 plugs instead of replacing the CDI and coil.
