TOPIC: It's DRY!!!!!!!!!

It's DRY!!!!!!!!! 13 years 4 months ago #33272

YAHOO!!!!!!!!

After working off and on (mostly off) for 5 years, I finally got my 1953 Herter's Quebec registered, powered and in the water last year. I had done some (to me) major repair work. All the through hull bolt holes were 1/2"-3/4" instead of the 1/4" they were supposed to be. Transom had split from the sides about 8" down on both sides. I had NO experience with fiberglass work when I started. All the cast aluminum for the keel and floor support was trash due to salt water and corrosion. Replaced with a homemade keel of aluminum angle iron and solid PVC 1x2 and pressure treated 2x4 floor support.

Took it out a couple times last year and had some minor water intrusion. Was going to take the floor out this year and investigate. Well, a buddy took it out on Monday and NOT a DROP of water came in. Don't know if what I saw was water that had been under the floor or what, but glad to know it's DRY! I must not have done too bad a job. In July after I get back from scout camp, we're gonna take the floor out again and the give it a good paint job to replace the merely adequate paint job I gave it. Hopefully it will be looking good by the end of the summer.

Make that 6 years, not 5. First post after starting work was July 12, 2005.
