I just received a new Uflex rotary steering cable system, and I'm looking at the motor end...and I'm looking at the motor...and I'm having an "uh oh" moment. How do I connect the two? What type of link? The motor is a 1960 Merk 45 hp.. :unsure:

Most of these go through the tilt tube on the motor and then a " draglink " affair goes back to the motor.
At least on newer motors.

That "draglink" is 89.00$ from dealer or marine store. I bought one yesterday on Ebay for my 66 Merc.They are 11 1/2" in length and L shaped with the bottom of the L being about 1 1/2" in lenght. It was NOS and he had 7 or 8 of them and they did not have a clue about them. Buy it now for 12.00 or best offer. I offered 10.00 and a hour later on Sunday it was accepted.8 or 10 for shipping which most people spend in gas just to get to there local dealer.Need the link let me know.

1960 Merc 45 hp....... that may very well have a smaller dia tilt tube , than your steering cable, if so you will need to make a ride guide cable adaptor to accept the newer larger cable

first see if the cable sildes thru the tilt tube of the motor

I can take a pic of a Ride Guide stock adapter for you tomorrow

you need to buy the used later model larger tube with nuts!(7/8 I think) , many on ebay.... make two brackets with holes for the 2 tilt tubes to mount as shown in the pics

now you route your steering cable thru the "new larger tube" that will allow you to properly thread on next connect the drag link from the motor to the end of the steering cable

I believe Joe had some of those on his website for sale, not sure if he still has stock or not. Might be worth a try;
