I am the new owner of a 1960 Glastron Fireflite. This is a new venture for me and my first boat. I bought this little runabout to enjoy on a local lake this summer. Can anyone provide me with the history of these boats. Any and all info is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Welcome aboard, UGA Girl. Nice Fireflite, congrats on a great find. There's a rundown of the Glastron history and factory images, etc. on the Classic Glastron Owner's Association site, the link is posted in the library here.

We'd love to see some more pics of your boat, looks like it's a nice one. Lot's of knowledgeable folks around here to help with any questions, so don't be afraid to ask. Quite a few members here from the Southeast, be sure to check out the regional forums too.

Congratulations on your '60 Fireflight. We had a ball this summer on the lakes in North Georgia!! And, as the previous owner told me, we always had folks stopping us to ask about 'Orca'. Many said 'My Dad had a boat like that and that's what I learned to ski behind when I was a kid'. My kids loved going out on her and my 13 year old son learned to drive her. You would have thought he was driving a cruise ship. That's what its all about!!! Having fun!! Long list of projects for her this winter and I am already looking forward to Summer 2012.

Do your bow light & deck cleats match these:
Bow Light:

Deck Cleat:

It turns out there's only 1 of the 2 original cleats. Neither of mine are in great shape & I'm looking to have reproductions molded if I can find good ones to make the molds.

Thanks
John

Nice cleat John. Yours should be good enough to make a mold from.

Anybody point me in the right direction & I'd do whatever needed to be done for them to be mold ready. They seem to be much more pitted then the photo indicates. Especially with the detailing & logo script....

Yes, identical to mine. My bow light was shattered this summer when I was parked at a friends house for a few hours. I was not happy to discover it broken (just the red part). Looks like someone picked it off with a pellet gun. I have the green side as a pattern for a new red side, but don't know who could make a new one. If anyone does please let me know.

If you need a red side to cast from, I will loan you mine for a pattern. It will be quite a while before my bow light will burn again. I have it off the bow, but haven't pulled them out to confirm they are the same right side up as up side down....

Good luck, let me know if you find someone to cast it. I could pretty easily be talked into a new set of blue & red myself, if only as a spare...

Hello,

We also have a 1960 fireflite. So much fun over the years - my dad bought it new!
Did you solve your bow light issue?
Ours has lost both lenses, and the bottom part is broken.
Any advice or leads?
Thanks,
Rolf

I love these Fireflight pictures. I have not replaced my red lenses yet and really haven't taken the time to look, so I don't have any leads. I am getting a new rebuilt motor this weekend. In a few hours I will have a '60 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp to sell as a parts motor or for someone to replace the seal in the foot and put a new prop shaft into. I have run this motor for 3 years and as recently as July. It would be a great motor for a shade tree mechanic to provide a second life for. It is original to my Fireflight.

Uga, I have heard that the "short shaft" motors are hard to find - did you have to look long?

Here is an old photo from when our fireflite was new.
my sisters don't look too happy about the photo opportunity - I think a very proud dad was behind the camera.

fireflite60; ugagirl,

WELCOME ABOARD to BOTH of you.

FYI, the fireflite MUST have been NICE, as REDFISH "splashed" the design before most new owners got their new runabout WET.

ONE reason that Glastron made so many designs was that Redfish was copying their designs about as fast as Glastron was building new boats.

yours, satx

I may have an extra red lens in the garage Gina, can you measure the height of your existing lens? I'll be glad to look later today, shoot me an email if you still have it, or post the results here. ;)
