Neil,
OK knock it off, your making me very jealous! LOL Looks to be a G3 to me. you could post it on the G3 site, but I'm sure several folks on here can say for sure. If that was close to me I'd be all over it! Great find buddy!

Re:Is this a G3? 13 years 5 months ago #29316

Yes, it is definitely a Glaspar G3, one of the earlier models. The aft side sponson and squarish bow are a dead giveaway. Saw my first G3 as a kid in the late 50's and it was striking, like a sleek sportscar on the water. A few other sportsters of the day were the AristoCraft 14' Torpedo and the Switzer Craft 15' Shooting Star (both woodies). The G3 has that classic styling that will never be dated.

Thanks John.
With this G3 and the Hydrocraft I should be able to run up all my short shafts.
I have a short Mark 75, and a short Mark 78 I would like to get mounted and let them do their thing.
I have my recent 650 long shaft, a long shaft 1150 and a long shaft Mark 78 so one of these will get a jack plate.
Well big plans anyway, lots of work, should keep me busy.
I've also got a 23 foot Sleekcraft Executive that I have to replace the stringers in. My wife really wants to get that boat back into service. Nice and big, long and low with a cuddy. Left hand steering. Nothing like looking over an 12 foot bow at 45 miles an hour.

Excellent deal, well done. Looks like your going to be busy for quite a while. Of course if you just keep shopping you'll never get them done! LOL

That thing looks fast just sitting on the trailer... having a nice tall merc hanging off the back will make for one sweeeeet combo. Congrats and good luck with it.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
Jim
I am buying the boat and trailer only for $200. The other $100 has to be used for diesel fuel for the trip. That Merc in the background, is that a 2.5?
Mike
That plate looks like a good pattern for the one I am wanting to build. Thanks for the pics.
Jim Bart
They do look fast. Timeless design. And you are right, they do, in my opinion, look best with a Merc tower.
Bob
Half the fun for me is the hunt. I just keep bringing them home and putting them in the shop. Heck, I can't dance and it's to windy to haul rocks, might as well buy boats and motors!

That is a 2.5 175 HP Merc Neil on a 25 inch leg. I can move the head to a 20 inch leg with a 1:87 gear foot. The motor only has about 428 or so hours on it. It has new thermos, impeller, I still have to replace the plugs and I am removing the oil pump. It works but I do not trust them. If it does not go in a week or so I will set it on that 2o inch leg and install it on my Wellcraft I am trying to move.

I have a manual jack plate if anyone needs one. I am not sure of the make but it is the same principle as the one you folks made. $80 plus shipping.

Thanks for the offer on the jack plate. I work at a planer mill and one of the millwrights here is going to build one for me.
Did you have a you-tube video on here with that motor running? I cannot seem to find it. Seems as though it is a snarling v6.
What is the rpm range on that 2.5?
These may be goofy questions, but I am learning all I can about the Mercs.
Neil
I went back through and found it.

I just finished up all of the particulars on the deal.
I will be going to bring it home the last weekend of the month.
I will get to visit with my youngest daughter that lives in Portland and pick up a G3.
One more glassic saved. Life is good. :)
I will post all pictures here of course.
I have also made arrangements to look at a 1960 Merc 300 while I am in Portland. It is white, it is tiny, but is is all Mercury!

Really no plans for the little shaver.
I will just clean it up and let it hang out in the shop with the "big boys". It will boost it's self esteem. ;)
I just may run onto just the right little boat for it to push around.

Neil,
I put that vid clip in merc outpost I think smell of 2 stroke or something like that. Here it is again for you.
RPM is pretty standard this is probably a fishing boat class v-6 merc. I am sure on the right boat it will scream along just fine.
I am going to install it on this Wellcraft and sell it as a package.
Or Not.
It will go on the Welly so I can cruise around with it in the mean time.

Icing on the cake ! They probably go for 100 alone.Tell him you do not trust the transom and you need it for moving it around in the garage to make room for the wifes car or she will shoot you. LOL
"Sitting on the dolly for easy moving" sounds to me like it is part of the deal.

Good luck with the retrieval Neil. Wheels and tires look to be nice and solid but one thing that comes to mind looking at your last pic(which I bet you are all over)...better bring something like an old life jacket or something to put between the front of the boat and the trailer....looks like is is sitting directly on the trailer frame.

Thanks for all of the moral support guys.
Both of our daughters and our grand daughter will be there.
Its gonna be a wonderful trip to the coast.
If I had an extra day I would go north a little and see the good Dr.Frankenmerc. Maybe sometime this summer. I would like to see his G3 up close. (And his Merc factory!)
I will have pics when I get home.
