frank yes i do,im not used to mercs, heck it takes alot just to get the top off the darn thing,i was going to put bolts through the holes for the cover but they are brass lined and i didnt want to screw them up,where the heck does the lifting ring go?
i made sure the chain doesnt hurt anything but its going to be a bear to paint it without a lifting ring.,john

Most merc lifting rings come as kits that do double duty as flywheel pullers John. They have a screw in fitting that goes into the very center threaded portion of the flywheel, then either use the lifting ring with it, or use it with a supplied bolt and wrench to remove the flywheel from its interference fit. Like this:

Seems to me I got mine off ebay for maybe 25 bucks.

That was a good deal. I bought mine at a Merc dealer and paid about $40 for it and it doesn't have the flywheel puller option like the one on the link you posted. I would highly recommend getting one. I can pull my "Tower of Power" by myself with no problems. It is alot easier on the paint job and you don't have to worry about damaging anything on the motor.

Is the very center of the flywheel threaded John?

John, my Merc 700 had those same three treaded holes, and I used a regular puller to pop the flywheel off to change the timing belt. That flywheel also had the threaded center hole for the puller/lift ring, so either approach was okay for pulling the flywheel. As far as lifting the motor by those bolts, I donno.

The Merc 1000 does NOT have those three holes, which contributed to the decision to purchase the tool. ;)
