TOPIC: 416 STEURY

416 STEURY 13 years 6 months ago #28188

Just when I thought that I had heard about all the different boats that have been built, I found this one.
416 STEURY Ser # T36169 made in Goshen, Indiana. It looks to be just under 16' rated at 100hp, but it has 135hp Merc. on it. The Classic Library shows stats from '59 through '62, but it also shows something about 1965?
Is the Ser. # any indication of the year that it was built? The only # that is close starts with 38+
The library mentions lapstrake and deep v hulls, this one is smooth sided and round chime and all most dead flat at the transom. Transom is 20".
I saw were someone has a tri-hull in the gallery. It's not a bad looking boat and it's on an old style Calkins bunk trailer.
Any one have more on these boats?
Thanks. old darb

Thanks Andy
They were in business a lot longer than I thought. I still wonder if the ser.# indicates the year, like Merc's?
I tried to post pictures in the gallery, but I'm doing some thing wrong. AGAIN!

The Steury Brothers started building boats in the 1950's to supplement their agricultural fertilizer business, which in Indiana was at best 3seasons. theymanufactured many lengths and models and sold out about 1980. if you google steury boat mfg, you'll find more.
