I would assume length is top of transom to the tip of boat. Could it be back of fin to tip of boat? Did different manufacture do it differently? Beam, widest point? Bow depth, floor to deck bottom? Deck length, windshield or dash to tip of boat? I never thought it could be so complicated.

Thanks Tom

Tom, the boat length is from the foremost point of the bow back to whatever part of the boat is farthest aft (Rear). Motors and accessories do not count, just boat parts. Many have fins or whatever that actually stick out behind the transom, my Cutter Tornado is like that. Beam is the widest dimension anywhere along the gunnels, you're right. I'm unsure on the other two, but would think bow depth would be floor to highest part of gunnel in that area, and deck length would be bow point to windshield base.

Actually I think the length is from the bow to the bottom of the transom. Not counting fins, swim platforms, motor brackets, etc. Yes beam is the widest point of the boat. Depth is the deepest point from the gunnal to the keel. You left out 'deadrise'. That's the angle between the keel & chine.

Not sure but I'd imagine deck length would be the overall length of the topside of the boat. Counting fins, bow pulpits, etc?

well I do know a CG aux boat that went from 26 feet to 30 feet just by adding a swim platform...and auto anchor extension off the bow.

not to make it any less confusing...

The method I described to measure the length of the boat is what the law requires in Georgia, it may be different in other states.
