TOPIC: 1961 Lonestar

Someone over on the IBoats forum just posted this in the restoration section-


Apparently just inherited it from their grandfather, and they are asking about how to go about removing the floor for replacement.

I have to say it has got to be one my favorite 'Glass cruisers- I've never seen one. From what I could find in the library it looks like a "bar harbor"? There is no brochure from '61, only an ad.

Are there many of these around? It's got me thinking... I could always use a little more room

Sure looks like the one I saw at Tim Calmes place yesterday.She had the same rear window and had red topsides.Did not look at the trailer,it was in a dark wharehouse with no lighting,parked close to other boats.I cannot speak for him but I would not be surprised if he would sell it.

Definitely a Lone Star Bar Harbor, either 1960 or 1961. I believe they changed the front windshield though in 1961?

This is the model that replaced the 1959 Caribbean as Lone Star's big fiberglass cruiser. Lots of small pocket cruisers like these, too many to list here. All competitors/replacements for the outboard plywood cruisers that dominated the market up to the late 1950s.

It's a new poster there, and I think they are new to boats in general... Hopefully, they aren't going to be in too far over their heads! I'd hate to see someone do a hack job on this boat.
