One of the few boats that could be profitable to restore. Finished they go around $45,000.

I am sure some people think I am on crack or what ever on some of the prices I have paid for some of my boats but I am not on crack and actually That is a good example of a rare boat versus Just an old boat,an old man once told me you can't get it unless you ask for it,it is worth whatever some one will pay soooo I guess if you think it is too high don't buy it,it is not for me either but some one needs it Bill

I thought holy cow, that's a lot for a shell. I know nothing about old fiberglass boats though. I just ordered Tail Fins and Two Tones by Peter Hunn. I joined FiberGlassics too. :)

I'm afraid when I do find an old FiberGlassic to fix up it will be the equivalant to the AMC Pacer. Naturally I'll pass all the cool boats up to get to it.

What's so special about this Barracuda?

I did a little research and see that they are rare. I still think w/o original motor running or not still seems a bit high. Like ya'll said though, somebody might REALLY want it.

Although we all know that rare doesn't ALWAY mean valuable (DONT TELL MY WIFE THIS!!), we also know that valuable is relative- Items are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. If someone can sell this boat for $4500, more power to them. And, if someone had $4500 and wants that boat- Go for it!

You never overpay for something that YOU want- Whatever price you pay is worth it.

I am sure most are in it for the love. Having said that, raising the bar like the muscle cars did for many other late classics sure isn't going to hurt our 'investments'.Most have paid very little initially for there treasures but when you move on to a new one it would be nice to reap a little profit.Or maybe break even.I would rather be on the ground floor for this than shelling out big big bucks in a few years for these beautiful works of art.

As a rule, the inboard-powered fiberglass boats were among the most expensive of the 1950's fiberglass boats when new and are indeed a rare bird- not many were made or sold. They very much appeal to the wood boat crowd and therefore draw similar prices.

The early Arena Craft boats such as the one discussed here don't come up very often. Additionally, the ad mentions this boat comes WITH the trim and running gear. NOT a bare shell. Probably a very manageable project.
