hi eric,i got your wheel today,ill start on it soon its pretty cracked up,but still savable.
i have to send for a coupler for my mini backhoes hydrolic system,as soon as i get that ill heat the garge and do both ,fix the bakhoe and your steering wheel,also thank you so much for the thank you card,that was nice to get. so it might be a litte while but ill get on it as soon as i get the part for the backhoe,because the only heat out there is a 20lb propane heater and 2 oil filled heaters,keep on working on that boat buddy.john

eric your welcome,and thank you andrew,its pretty bad ,alot of cracks and crazing,but i think i can save it,if i cant ill get him another one thats not as bad and paint it,i admire this young mans determination.

and yep its going to be white,the original color was black. ill do my best with it,and i ordered the part i needed for my mini back hoe,so as soon as it gets here ill fix your wheel and try to do the backhoe the same day. plus do you have the center cap for the steering wheel?if not i can try to make one for it.john |

lol,eric,like said,i will "TRY"to make a center cap,lol,i have some thoughts of how im going to do it,but i will keep that for later.
the coupler came in yesterday ,so tommorrow im going to pull the motor from the backhoe and install the coupler. after it gets warm enough ill start on your wheel,wish me luck,lol. by the way what colors are you planing on painting the boat so i have a better idea for the center cap.and yep the wheel will be white,lol,john |

John, I was thinking something like this- It's the cap from my Volksboat-
It's held in place by that spring clip... The wheel itself is a little different, but I think that the center is similar- 
But, Of course, It would need a different logo- Like this one, for example- 
It's a vector graphic, so I can resize/color as required... -Andrew |

it is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and it goes into the steering wheel to hold it in place and that would be great in a darker blue on the sailfish or marlin? whichever it is but that would be cool lookin

I'd need the diameter of the inner circle, where that lip is. That SHOULD be where the emblem goes.

The more accurate, the better, so it'll be a tight fit- but not TOO tight! I don't want to step on Johns toes, though- this is his project, if he wants to do it, I don't want to get in the way! The color can be whatever color you want, it only takes a few keystrokes to change it with Adobe Illustrator... I won't be able to get the 'stuff' to do it for a few days anyway, Kind of snowed in here on the ship... There are 6' + snow drifts on the dock, and in front of my Jeep... Hopefully I'll be able to move this weekend  -Andrew |

No one right now, Eric.
I should be able to make one up without the part- As long as the measurement is accurate... It should kind of slip in to the wheel, then be held in by a spring clip like what my Volksboat wheel has. It'll be plastic, with a domed epoxy top... It may need a bit of 'adjustment' to fit right- some light sanding around the edge should do the trick. I'll work on some graphics for it. I have the Logo (from the brochure), but can do other things as well- The make/model of boat, name of boat, your name, pretty much whatever you'd want in there. Since I've already got all the files digitized, It's an easy change! -Andrew

hey eric,im sorry i didnt get to it today,im still working on the back hoe,ill definatly have the backhoe done tommorrow,then on to your wheel.
i hurt my shoulders doing the lifting,of the hood/gas tank and the motor. as for the wheel its a very hard rubber,and ill have to put in a few connectors where its badly cracked.i cant guarantee that it wont crack again,but ill do my best,ill start on it as soon as im done with the back hoe,my wife is going to help me lift gas tank on,its 1/4 inch steel.john |

I did a few 'test' emblems- The epoxy is curing-
You can't see it too well in the photos, but I used gold leaf on the eyes. So far, they are turning out pretty nice- Hopefully they'll work out! |

by the way im finished with the back hoe and started on your wheel,i just forgot to take the camera out to the garage,lol,and darn its bad out there,its getting very cold and the winds are gusting hard.john |
