Hydrocraft Fantasy 16 project 13 years 11 months ago #23783

Hi everyone

Just picked up this nice Fantasy 16. I need help with picking out a motor.... How big? what make? what model? I would like to go with something more modern. I know most of you dont like to hear that but there are more options.

Looks like you found a nice one Ricky, congrats. At least it's all there, won't take THAT much work to get her seaworthy hopefully. If you don't want to keep that fat boy hanging on the back put it in the Glassifieds, I'm sure someone would be glad to have it. Be sure to check the old girl over carefully (including transom), keep us posted and share plenty of pics with us.

R: CONGRATS , The pic look like you are in AZ. Think member Neil has a hull the same racy lines.. 1st you would need to measure the rear transom height ,? If about 16 inches you need SHORT shaft housing motor. . If about 20 - 21 inches , or you need to rebuild / raise the hieght , then more modern 70- , 80's motor can buy. If that route a OMC 75 hp STINGER model are collectible , something with tilt & power trim will be more fun driving / shore beaching, etc. .. Post more pics when home . PLEASE.

As far as the HP rating, go to page three and look under the heading: Motor size for 1961 larson... Ike posted the USCG formula for the recommended maximum Hp.Whats on it now, and is there a tag anywhere under the rear deck near the transom? "more modern" in stock form means more hp and lighter than years ago when they were rated differently, prop vs the crank.

Welcome to FG. Glad to have you here.
Keep up posted with lots of pics on the project.
Here is my Fantasy. 15 footer. Your 16 looks to have the moleded seats. Thats great. I still have the windshield for mine.
The skeg on the bottom of my hull had been hit and it broke the seal around the bolts up through the hull. Water had intruded and got into the floor. I am replacing the whole floor.
I am going to hang a 1964 Merc 1000 shorty on mine. No T/T.
I am working on the motor now.
Good luck to you on yours.
Could you post a shot of the Fantasy emblem on the stern?
Mine are gone and I want to see if this is something I can reproduce.
Also if you haven't already, there is some info here in the Glassic Library about the Hydrocraft Fantasy.
If you decide to get rid of it, let me know.

I will get you a pic of the emblem asap.
Why no T/T on the Merc? By choice or just what you had? I'm thinking that's what this hull really needs to come alive.... Maybe even a hydro jack plate. Thoughts?

would like to find a 115 or a 140 merc. There are plenty around just havnt found the right deal.

No T/T plans immediately. Gonna' get the motor/boat electrical/fuel tank placement/etc. stuff sorted first. It may not even see the lake this year.
These are flat bottom, smooth water boats. Not much for chines.
Light and low, a person can easily overpower and get into serious trouble. You have another foot of hull on me but still, be careful. Just my thoughts.
