I am looking for a speedometer for my boat and I ran across the gauge that is made by Finson. I am not familiar with this gauge at all. What time period is it? Was this gauge used in outboard boats are was it a Century or Chris Craft gauge? Anyone have any experience with one?

DaveK, I searched the WWW and couldn't find squat except a couple people asking the same question! Looks like you may have a rare animal there, any pics?

DaveK has a bit of trouble working a camera.
I hear he is great on restoring wood boats.

Gee whiz.....THawk Sr,Now I am catching grief about my photo work. Actually there are a couple of these speedometers on Fleabay. My boat will be looking for a speedometer and I saw them and got very curious about them. You are correct. I did a Google on them as well. Didn't find any info on them of value either.

Try looking up "Fisons's Scientific".....some time in the 90s they were taken over by Fisher......Made lab instruments that look a lot like the speedometer

Been watching both from day one...trying to get the light that the sell has listed

His items are very dirty and in bad shape (look at the spots on the chrome)for being never used...place must have been near salt water

The seller was not real receptive to questions. I asked some questions about it and he says what you see is what you get. Of course I didn't see the box that he says they are in either. One of my questions had to do, with what would be in the box.

No idea how rare a FINSON speedo might be. They were pictured in the 1952 brochure of Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. and sold as an accessory to the boats. $8.25 for one from 0 to 35 MPH or $13.75 for one 0 to 50 MPH.

I can see the company name Finson Products with address of 3330 Cullom Ave. on the face of the speedo. I cannot make out the city or state. It might be Chicago, but difficult to tell for sure.

Last evening I was paging thru the January 1953 issue of "The Boating Industry" magazine. I came across a full page ad by Finson Products, Inc., 3330 Cullom Ave., Chicago, 18, Ill.

It shows spark plugs, speedometers and throttle controls.
