TOPIC: Jamil's New Website

Jamil's New Website 13 years 8 months ago #23496

I have a new website. It's devoted to the how-to of boat restoration.

For those of you who have used my tutorials on the research/restoration page of fiberglassics, I will still be publishing my work here as well.

As most of you know, fiberglassics is a very special website and even though I haven't been around very much these last few months, I still hold this site as the benchmark for how a classic boat site should be. I'm honored to be able to contribute to it and that's not going to change.

But back to my website...

It's basically a site devoted to how to articles and it's broken up into more easily digested chunks.

I've been working on it for the last four nights and I'm now a little bit cross-eyed and sleep deprived. I can no longer tell what's good and what's bad.

I'm hoping you guys will take some time to look it over and give me your feedback. Please bear in mind that it's a work in progress, so be gentle.

Here's a link. It's still too new for the search engines to know it exists, so if you don't use the link, you'll have to type it into your browser.

Glass Clown Boats
or type: www.glassclownboats.com

Thanks. Look for some cool finished projects here (on fiberglassics) very soon.

I've only taken a quick peek, but it looks like a great site, with TONS of information on it! I can't wait 'till I've got more time to really read through it all.

No doubt it'll be a fantastic resource!

I will say, though, that white type on a black background is a terrible combination - at least for my eyes. Very hard to read and focus.

Great site. It will be a great help to alot of people. I allready found an ansewer to a question I had about paint. Now with the help of the members on this site I should be able to paint my boat this spring with little to no problems. Skip.

Jamil,
Excellent site from what I've seen so far. I have to really dig in when I get the chance. Definitely went to my favorites list right away!

Peter,

Thanks for the feedback, I toned down the contrast on the text. Instead of white on black, it's a much more neutral gray text now. I think it's easier to read.

Great Web Site Jamil -- Wish I had read it before I started polishing my Gel Coat ! Didn't make TOO many mistakes but I did learn a few things .Got good tips on the finish & Wax. I will be checking this out before I start any projects in the future. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us .

Alright. The dark website and creepy clown face was a bust. Everyone hated it and it turns out the clown face was pretty similar to a gang symbol of some kind. Is nothing sacred?

It's now a nice boring light gray.

I put out an open call for a transom to replace for the next pictorial (which will also be posted here). If anyone is interested, the details are here

Hate is a strong word Jamil, let's just say it looks much more "inviting" now. Nice job on the new website, and kudos to you for having the conviction to "tweak it" to make it work best. The new bite size format IS much easier for folks like me with a short attention span to digest. There's a special place in Restoration Heaven waiting for you when you get there. ;)

I went in and looked around a bit.
Looks very informative and a touch of humor, all good stuff.
Thank you.
There are alot of folks that will be taking advantage of your hard work of creating a place to get questions answered, me included.
In the Pacific Northwest, even better!
