Looks like a cool boat!!

Looking at the '59 brochure on this site, it looks like they made a hard top, but I'd guess it was probably an option... It seems that a lot of companies offered them, but it doesn't seem like too many people bought them.

That looks like a Gator trailer, too- Nice package.

Looks to be a Skagit Skimaster. We have one waiting in the wings to be worked on. Member Strobee has a very nice one you can get an idea of what they look like with the optional hardtop.Looking for a hardtop for ours as well. Not much headroom with the hardtop in place however but high on the kool factor.

Here are some nice shots of Clint's '59 Skimaster. His wife would gladly sell me this boat.

I wouldn't worry about the top. I'd grab it anyway. B)

Here's a shot of Mike Holmstroms "Persimmon princess" I'm not sure if it's the same make and model but it has the hardtop

Mike Holmstrom's is a 1960 and utilizes the same hull as our old Skagit 17ft Express if I am not mistaken. They were sold/registered as 18ft that year.

They were pretty nice boats. Seating room is limited, due to the split bench up front, and the two buckets in back. But there is a ton of room in the boat for storage of gear. Chances are good that the transom is bad or is on the way to being so. Generally the tops of the transom were exposed raw plywood. Many boats were done this way, unfortunately. I'm certain that none of the builders would have dreamed that the boats would be in service 20 let alone 50 years latter. Your best bet on a hard top (they were optional, at added expense) is to find a junk boat & buy it just for the top.

I talked to the owner earlier and going to go get it sometime next week. I's snowing up there today and sun and is supposed to be nice all next week. It's in Mo. by sikeston which is about 500 mi for me. I like the red/white combo but thinkin' about the old t-bird green also.

Just a couple feet shorter than the SkiMaster. Minus the hardtop, the Sporty is a very similar boat. Hmmmm.....love the red & white!
