I stumbled on a great deal on this motor.

Now I have to decide what I am going to use on my Glasspar Citation- Do I use the original 1959 Evinrude fat 50, that I am not sure about the running condition of, or do I put this beauty on there-

It's a 1961 (I think) Merc 700 'tower of power'... It is supposed to be in running order, and I have no reason to doubt that- It is pretty much all intact, and in good shape. It's decals are faded, and someone painted the lower unit black, but otherwise it looks pretty good. It came with the original Kiekhaefer control box- even has the key in it still!

There is a later add-on hydraulic trim/tilit-

There is no power unit for that, however, just a couple of hydraulic hoses... I don't know if it's usable.

So- Should the Glasspar have a Merc or an Evinrude push her?? I'm FAIRLY confident that I can get the evinrude running, but I know this one will run. I also like the look of this motor, although the Fat 50 is a pretty sharp one, too, especially since it's the 'golden jubileee' model, with all the extra gold trim.

as long as the pistons are not seized and leaking that trim stuff should work with the correct parts. I would check the type of powe head (tiger block) and check the s/n on the tag on the front of the transom clamp.
I too have a fat fifty. Need to finish cosmetics.

After checking the serial # (1482328) it appears to be a 1962...

Yeah- It's in the garage with the rest of the motors... I 'saved' it from a barn over in Dunlap... Makes me wonder how many more are gathering dust in barns around here :)

Glad to hear that you're back in town- Walking slow? Thats no good... At least you're walking, though!! Let me know if you need a hand with anything, I'm not far away.

Looks to be a shorty with an extention.
Good find, I am hoping to find an old short white stack myself.
I hope the tilt/trim works out to be ok.
As far as choice of which should be on the Glasspar, well the white Merc gets my vote.

Neil-

I THOUGHT it looked like an extension... The entire lower unit looks a bit different than some of the other photos that I've seen online of the same motor, but it might be the extension that makes it look different. I'll have to get a few more photos up.
