Not being well versed in boating or being a boat owner (other then my little fishing boat) I have a (dumb) question.

On the bow of my boat was this old running light, that is not OEM for the boat. Instead of the normal red and green lens, it has a red and blue. What the deal with that? I thought they were all red and green.

J: You would make a great Straight Man.! Only partial dumb ?? .Still could be original issue for your model .
. Mr Wizard Science class will tell new collectors the dye or
color formula in the OLD Days to make Green lens, fades / bleaches / changes to BLUE over the years with UV sunlight . Boats always stored inside MAY still be GREEN..A Chemist theory may
also quote Out-Gassing of the plastic material over Time, but sunlight quickens the change to Blue. .Red was not affected.

. But red boats , motorcycles seem to fade to Orange in the southern states.

Unless of course they're glass then they shouldn't fade.

should be green and red, not blue and red. the green lenses fade and turn blue for some reason.

Not a dumb question and there is an easy fix.

get a yellow lens repair kit at your auto store. Take the bow light apart and install the yellow tape to the back of your blue lens and reinstall.

yellow and blue make...green

when the light is off the lens will still look blue but that does not matter, it only matters what color it is when it is ON according to the CG inspection guild lines.

blue lense...needs to be green

yellow Auto lens repair tape

test view before application

After applying tape to the back of the lens.

Test with an LED flash light

Test after being reinstalled into bow light.

need to note about the bow shot, yes the bulb inside the bow-lite on the funliner was not "normal", I upgrade the 12 volt bulb with an LED bulb conversion, thats why it looks a little BRIGHTER than normal.

To go along with the last post. If anybody is thinking of ugrading to LEDs here is a site that has them for everything you can think of. Been thinking of up grading trailer light and maybe the cars

yup thats the site to go to for the LED conversion, changed the bulb and the socket it plug into in order to make it water proof and more shock resistant. what it had was good for 1962, but putting a little something something inside the bowlite brought it up in to the 2000 and something era and you would not have know otherwise.

Wow, lots of response from that question. The yellow inside of the lens, should be easy enough to do. Thanks to all for the replies. Didn't know about plastic turning blue after years of sun. Crazy stuff. Will take a look at the lens with light in it. Maybe it is already green, just needs light. Thanks. JT
