TOPIC: Anyone even heard of a "Ward" boat?

Anyone even heard of a "Ward" boat? 13 years 10 months ago #20500

It's a 15 foot glass runabout type...I've been told there were only about a dozen made...probably in the south somewhere. Vintage is late 60s/early 70s. We have one in our possesion right now ready to be re-cored...wondering if anyone knows any type of history. The hull shape is similar to a PaceCraft but much narrower.

John is right, a picture or two would help alot. I (edit) thought Sea King built some boats that were sold by Montgomery Ward stores, could it be one of those? Check the FG Library and see what you think;

Welcome aboard!

Sea King did NOT make boats for Montgomery Wards. Sea King was the trade name used by Montgomery Ward for the boats, outboard motors and trailers that they sold. Wards did not manfacture any of these products. They were purchased from established manufacturers and badged as "Sea King" for Wards.

Some of the boat builders that made boats for Wards included Chetek Boat; Cruisers, Inc.; Fort Dodge Boat Co. and Span America Boat Co. in a joint venture; and maybe Red Fish Boat.

Is "WARD" the brand name of your boat or the model name? Is there any indication of the location of the manufacturer on the boat? As stated above, photos often times are very helpful

I'll get some pics taken next time I'm at my buddies house....we've got it sitting on it's trailer for now...I can't sacrifice my heated garage until the end of january for the re-core. The story I heard though was that it wasn't from Montgomery Wards....more like some guy named Ward built a bunch of boats back in the day..heh. I'll have more info and pics soon

The Ward Brothers were the folks who established Duracraft boats. Perhaps this is the manufacturer you are thinking of:
