I am restoring a 1959 Glasspar G3. I am missing a few trim pieces around the motor well, specifically the corner pieces in the middle of the photo. I know a number of owners raise their transoms when they replace the wood, in which case they wouldnt be using this trim... Does anyone have these pieces that I could purchase, or at least borrow to send to the local foundry for reproduction?

Thanks!

Dean

Dr. Frankenmerc came through for me, and lent me the pieces off his '59. A local foundry (Tacoma, WA) Custom Castings is reproducing his parts. During the sand cast process, they will clean up the part surface/edges and removed the previous holes, so I can redrill them. Part shrinkage was an initial concern of mine. The foundry said that it would shrink 3/16" over a foot of length. The only critical dimension is between the transom and the top of the deck. Over this short length, I should see only about 3/64" shrinkage. This isnt a big deal, as I'm re-doing the transom now, so I will just add 3/64" of height to accomodate for the trim shrinkage.

The guys at Creative Castings were great to work with, using email and phone... I mailed them the parts, they promptly called with an estimate (only cost $16 each!). I will post a photo of the new parts, I expect they will arrive back to me by mail any day now.

Dean
Keep us posted on the progress and fit of the new parts.
I tried dealing with my local foundry:
"The prices I was getting from them made me think we were reproducing gold."

regards and happy holidays

That is a great price- Considering the work that'll go in to producing them.

Pricing for services like that does seem to vary a lot in different areas of the country- I suppose a lot of it depends on supply and demand... And, of course, if it's being done on a boat, and it's called 'marine grade', they will, of course, add a premium :)

I would be interested in finding out who to contact for some of those same castings. I need some myself. If you could please let me know who to contact. Thanks Brian

Hey Brian,
Here is their contact information. When I called I spoke to a guy named Dan, but this was the guy that got back to me by email with the quote:

I am off on a Christmas skiing vacation right now, I will post pictures of the finished product once i get home, so you can see their work. One thing... i needed to provide them a set of the pieces to create the sand mold from. I dont think they can make any more without the master pieces... but you can call and ask them.
