I've had a lot of success making replacements from heat formed plexiglass- Most recently they were clear lenses, but I've done colored in the past.

There are clear and translucent paints that are sold for painting glass that work fairly well. The fabric dyes used in those instructions probably won't hold up to sunlight too well- The glass paints do a pretty good job.

I've got a few that I need to make lenses for in the near future- If I ever get home, I'll take photos when I do and post a 'how to'.

You can also cast them, especially if you have one to use to make a mold.... This place- alumilite.com has what you need to do it, but it's a little expensive if you only need one of something.
