TOPIC: romoving old gel coat?

I have a 56 Glasspar Del Mar. The old gel coat is cracked so I want to remove it. Will I have to recoat it or can I just prime and paint? Also I'm confused about bottom paints. I am in Idaho and it will never see salt water so do I need to have anti fouling paint on it or just use top coat? It will not be in the water for mare tthan a week and that would only be once a year at most.

S: CONGRATS on a nice model . Glasspars are collectable. There is a guy in Az that had quite nice award winning Del Mar. INTERLUX has a very nice, shiny, series , Bright Sides, that gets good results with a brush. Should be able to use both places.

As usual I got it in the garage before any pic were taken. I'm going to get it out this weekend for a final cleaning before I get started.

Lots of info on the site about grinding and sanding gelcoat. Safety and ventilation is paramount, and do it outdoors if you ever want to use your shop again. Once ground off, filling and fairing is the key. Then for a white hull, I recommend Interlix VC Performance Epoxy. Can take seasons in the water. I have found with Brightsides that after about 4 days pinholing can occur.
