There is a guy looking to sell a 67/68 23 ft Chris Craft Lancer. Hull #75 of 80. Has new motor for it (old one salt water corroded) plus some original literature. Wants it to go to a good home. Located in NH. Don't know price. E-mail privately and I'll give you his e-mail. I'm not interested because of I/O.

That Cavalier is way different than that Lancer. The Lancer is a pretty sporty boat. Never seen one with a cabin it looks pretty cool I/O or not. I suppose you could place the V-8 on a V-Drive or install a sea bracket and place 2 150 HP Tall Tower's or Power on it. Just sayin.................

Is it NY or NH? The letters look to be NY on the reg numbers.

The reg is NY, but the boat is in NH. The guy rescued it from someone who used it in Long Island Sound after the motor got messed up by salt and sand, hence, the new motor. The guy would part with it, but I don't know his price. Don't think his plans include re-doing it at this point.

Now on Glassifieds. For that price, I'd like to figure how to ditch the I/O

I agree with g3jim. I have never seen a Lancer with a cabin. Are you positive it's a Lancer? I prefer direct drive inboard to I/O. I had one offered to me a few years ago. They had an engine box in the center of the cocpit just like the old utility inboard models.

Yes, there were cabin models of the Chris-Craft Lancer.

In 1967-68 there was the 23 ft. Lancer Express cruiser. Hull ID should start with "OXAZ" Apparently 80 were made in those two years, according to the book "Chris-Craft: The Essential Guide" by Jerry Conrad.

Rare enough that I never knew. Lancer was such a popular line but I don't see many here in Florida these days. Maybe there are still a lot of them up north. I had one a short time here in '76. That was I/O with twin Buick v6 blocks. Think it was a 23' maybe 24 about '69 vintage.

Hi guys. I still have this boat. Didn't get so much as an offer.
Yes, its really a Lancer. Its in NH. It is rare. Have only found two others in the US, although there may be more. They are both in OK.
Thought I was asking a reasonable price, but zip.
Hull, stringers, floors, and transom all seem solid. Unlike the open Lancers, there is no wood in the foredeck. Its all 'glass.
Would sell without engine/outdrive if anyone is interested.
Outdrive is regular Volvo, so shouldn't be hard to sell.
As mentioned earlier, I'd sure like to see it go to a good home.
Right now, its covered and has a foot of snow on it. :)

68lancer, Maybe you would have some luck on the Chris Craft forum. It's a beautiful boat... would love to have it, but alas I'm both out of room and $$!

It may just be timing on the lack of interest.

My dad has a 23 Lancer open version. I put a new BMW 220 I/O in it back in 1987. I was a Beamer marine dealer then. Did about 40 MPH.

Fairly deep-V hull. Good riding for its size. A bit rocky-rolly at rest...due to the deep-V and the fact that it floated with the chines clear of the water. Superstructure a bit lightly built.
First cruiser version Lancer I've seen.

Good all-round family boats!

I have a 23 Lancer open. Very nice riding hull, very well built, nice lines. As far as all those qualities go this cruser should be the same. Volvo I/o isn't that bad, it seperates into upper and lower case and water pump is in the boat. all stainl;ess shafts where it counts. Parts are easily found.
I am either an inboard or a vintage merc outboard guy and was concerned but, I really liked the boat so I picked it up. I have been impressed with the outdrive for simplicity and durability. It is not really for high perf, no perf props available and no trim. But as a drive system this simpler design makes it less to go wrong.
My 2 cents,
Randy

Thanks for the comments. 40 mph is pretty close as the original sales brochure says 39 mph with the standard 185hp GM small block.
With a regular 350, at about 250 hp, it should really scoot.
Chris Craft advertised in the brochure that the hull for the Lancers is an offshore racing hull form.

I don't know what the deadrise angle is on the Lancer, but it's pretty deep. The hull is quite fine in the bow and full in the stern.

For this reason, the Lancer will carry any engine you might want to install. Plenty of floatation in the stern. I'd like to repower a Lancer with a TAMD41 Volvo diesel I/O, my fav engine.

The fuel tank is only 42 gallons, so, I'd put in a new tank of about 100 gallons. The hull can carry it, no problem.

Yes, the Lancer was built for the Florida ocean market. Great hull!

Hull design is purported to be a colaboration of Jim Wynn (Merc fame) and Ray Hunt. (father of the V bottom with strakes design)

You can see the depth of the Vee in this bow pix.
Can't find anyone who doesn't praise the seakeeping qualities and speed characteristics.
Lancers have a large following in Sweden.
