TOPIC: 1958 18 foot Sabercraft

1958 18 foot Sabercraft 13 years 11 months ago #17361

I have a 1958, 18 foot Sabercraft fiberglass boat that I'm rebuilding. Mainly the floor and transum. If any of you have some pictures of the inside of such a craft it would be very helpful to me. This boat orriginally was inboard powered, I think, but was converted to outboard. I'm replacing the floor and the bracing to the transum and also the ribs along the insides. Any thoughts or ideas will be helpful. Thank you.

We bought a 1963 SabreCraft Commander (19') in July. If you are looking for specific SabreCraft things, after hours and hours of research we really haven't found to much! We just completed putting in the new floor, after gutting the whole thing and reinforcing the stringers. If you want to give me your email I will send you pictures of ours. I would like to see pictures of your boat!

Hey there. I have a 71 Sabre Craft. Not sure how the looks and construction compares. I found a decal on the side of mine that says WebCor hull design. From what I've read, these don't have wood stringers? Wondering if you have gotten the floor up to check it out. Maybe they started this type of construction later?

I, like you, have found very little on these boats.

Good luck!

The stringers in ours were fiberglass, but they used wood as a form. It was all rotted, so we cut off just the top part and took it all out. We then filled them with closed cell foam and fiberglassed over them again. Please post some pictures, although I am still trying to figure out how to do that on here!

I'll get some pics up later this week. Did you get any pictures yourself when you pulled the floor up?

This is the best I have? This is the very dusty version!

Not of the floor out, sorry. We put a new floor in, but were in Colorado and when fall came it got pretty cold to work out there, so we are kind of stalled at this point. Need warmer weather for the next steps. Just bought another boat Friday, 1980 Galaxie (of Texas) so we were out there at 8:30 this morning (at a nice balmy 30 degrees +/-) tearing that thing apart. Will post some more pictures of the Commander though. I need to get someware to shrink them before I put them on.
