Ron, can I print that, need a couple more parts, I can show it to my wife....might help me out lol.

That has been paid would been a toughy.

Something like this I think would be in the running. It is a glass over wood hull tho.

But then this one in an art gallery might be up there.

For what I would call a common man's "glassic"....

I would think some of the early-mid-60s Correct Craft, Ski-Nautique, and Donzi ski-boats would be in the running..

I think a Cadillac boat would be way up there. They seem to be the holy grail of glass.

I'm sure there is a few hulls that are not well publicized that have sold for extreme values.

One of my favorite hulls of all time is this Turbocraft,,, not sure if it ever sold or not. Outside my budget, but a true beauty.

That's a '58 Johnson 50 horse. KevFin has one of those boats, but his is in really rough shape.

Those Barracuda's are demanding a good price and that's unrestored, restored would have to be in the 20 k + range....

Thanks for the comment. The pics and brief description don't do her justice! The motor is a beauty on its own-1958 Johnson Super Seahorse 50(1st v-4 built)3 tone paint,Cadillac pearl white, chrome and 3 emblems-runs as good as it looks.

Most expensive unrestored glassic I've found so far has been the 14 ft DONZI BABY-they also made 16ft model -a friend asked me to find one for him. Only 13 known to have been built(from what I got fom Donzi experts)$10,000+ for one needing total restoration.

Re:Most expensive glassic 13 years 11 months ago #17360

I would bet well above any mentioned so far would be
this Switzer Wing. It was bought from the collection
of Ted Miller after he passed away and is now in
another collection. The story was this boat had never
been in the water, and had always been stored indoors.
No one has ever said what was paid for it but offers
had been made many times for it over the years well
above $20k. The current owner remains anonymous.

Without a doubt - The Skagit 31 Saratogan

Only 3 were ever built. This is the only complete survivor known.

23 years of restoration by Tim Jones in Washington State

Twin inboard V8 engines, 31 feet long. 11,000 pounds

That is a lot of glass

Re:Most expensive glassic 13 years 8 months ago #22726

Hello, I'm Tim the owner of the Skagit 31 Saratogan.

The boat orginally had twin Chrysler 225 V-8's. There was no machinery in the boat when I acquired it in 1988.

It now has twin Volvo Penta 200 HP Turbo diesels, 2:1 ratio Velvet Drive 8 degree downangle reverse gears swinging 18X21 four blade DynaQuad propellers. Cruise speed 18 knots. Top 28 knots.

She weighs 11,500 pounds, no fuel or water. Fuel capacity 200 gallons. Water capacity 70 gallons.

New interior with diesel galley stove, hot and cold pressure water, microwave, refrigerator with freezer. Watermaker.

Head has a vintage Wilcox Skipper head, new cabinet with original fiberglass counter top and sink. Shower.

High power vintage stereo amplifier, Bose speakers, CD player, iPod, Karoke machine and flat screen TV.

Very quiet and smooth. Lots of curves and chrome!

The hull was laid up in late 1958 and completed in early 1959. The hull is 3/4" thick solid glass of 19 (count um) 24 oz rovings! The keel is 20 inches deep which makes the boat track nice and straight and also easy to handle around the docks.

Here is a bit more on the Skagit 31 Saratogan.

The boat has two foam-core water-tight bulkheads. The cabin and cockpit area are about equal. Cockpit just over 100 sqft.
Original two piece stern gate. The boat was designed around 1950's low profile V-8's. Fitting in the Volvo diesels was a challenge.

The boat was being turned into a commercial fishing boat when found and was pretty much a derelict.

Designed and built by Howard S. Roberts, Howard went on to build many gill netters and commercial fishing boats. This was built in Howard's (comparative) youth and is considered to be his masterpiece.

I would rather not be in the Most Expensive Glassic section, but if the
truth be known the Saratogan probably is the most expensive glass restoration.

I've posted some pictures in the gallery. Look in 1959 Skagit Saratogan
In the picture, the photo boat wasn't able to keep up!

Sounds as tough as an old Cheoy Lee. Mine pounded on submerged pilings during a storm with nary a crack.

The most expensive unrestored Glassic I remember was the Lone Star Meteor
found in a shipping container up in the north east. It sold on ebay if
I remember correctly for $12,500. The owner did a complete restore and
turned down $25,000 IF my memeory is correct.
