I have just inherited a boat that has twin 1970 Johnson 60hp outboards. It has been running at 6000ft elevation. I live at 700ft elevation. I don't have any outboard experience but I am guessing it will not run right. Do these motors have jets in the carbs that will need to be replaced or do they have enough adjustment built in? The boat hasn't gotten here yet but if I need to get some parts ahead of time I would like to be prepared. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Often there was a high altitude jet kit for motors.
Call Steve at www.sea-way.com and ask him.
Those are nice engines, loop charged.

You need to find out if it has the jets for high elevation first and foremost.

All my boats have the factory original jets which were designed for sea level to 3000-4000 ish feet and they still run fine at one of our local lakes thats at 6700 feet. It does slow you down a bit though and can be a little cranky starting when they are cold. So even if you swapped in some stockers, you should still be ok at higher lakes.

Running at lower elevations with the high elevation jets could cause a lean situation...

Thanks everybody. Talked to Steve at Sea Way and he is sending me six standard jets. Not sure what is in the motors now but can't go wrong having the right ones on hand when it gets here. He had the NOS jets on hand and only $4 ea. Sure don't want to run 'em to lean.
