Hi folks,

I am preparing to pull the motor from the 15' Bobcraft. Has anyone converted a automotive engine stand to a outboard, 85hp Evenrude, motor stand. I looked in the archives and couldn't find any reference.

Should I just start from scratch. I have limited space and anytime I can use what I already have it is a good thing.

If you can mount a 1 1/2" thick piece of plywood to your engine stand, just something to clamp onto, you should be fine. No reason why that wouldn't work.

Or a short piece of 2x12, two 2x anything (one on the upper arms and one on the lower) will work. Two pieces of 3/4" plywood "sandwiched" together will work to get the thickness you need, just what ever you have available.

I'm for the 2- 3/4" plywood sandwich option.
The main reason is because you will have to build "UP".
Outboards are too tall for a standard engine-stand.
Whatever you do- use BOLTS to hold it together. Screws tend to pull out at the least opportune time.

I have an engine-cart that is tall enough to slide my 55gal testing drum underneath the engine. Depending on what type stand you have- this may not be possible.

Oh I wish I could think about needing a wet tank. I have pletty of scrap so I will create something. The good news is I have an engine hoist so I can change it around when necessary.

I did it last month with the yellow one that I painted. I think a 20" motor would fit on this one expecially if the motor was lilted up a little. The orange stand has to be built up for the 15" motor since it's short. Lastly the wood stand is way over kill and big but it works for out door use, Mike

The orange stand looks just like mine! I can make it work.
