TOPIC: 1961 Crestliner Mustang

1961 Crestliner Mustang 6 months 2 weeks ago #148817

I just bought this from its second owner, a nearby neighbor. The first owner was his father who bought it new. It's home port has always been within one mile of where it is now, here in a quiet part of Muscongus Bay in Maine.

Several years ago it got loose from its mooring, ended up at low tide under a dock, then when the tide came in it was bashed from above against the bottom of the dock. The windscreen, steering wheel, and bench seats were severely damaged or completely destroyed at that time and repairs were made to all but the windscreen, which was unrecoverable.

More information on my craft:

1961 Crestliner Mustang 14
Model 2051 Serial Number is 9617 H

Current Condition:

It was functional 3 years ago when it was pulled for an engine issue.

The hull appears to be solid and safe.

Paint is severely oxidized and worn, but original colors were kept.

Crestliner badges are still present on both sides.

It is currently rigged for hydraulic steering.

Bench seats have been rebuilt and solid red vinyl was used, not the two-tone.

The windscreen was destroyed and is entirely missing.

Various lights and accessories are missing.

The wood flooring insert is missing.

The steering wheel is not original.

There are holes in the dash console area where original instruments for the Johnson motor were removed when it was re-powered. Only the spedo remains for instrumentation.

The original rigging was for a (Johnson we think) 40 HP and it has been re-rigged with a 1990 Yamaha 40HP which I may or may not be able to get running reliably. If I cannot, it will get a replacement, probably of the same type though I'd consider a good vintage motor if I can get the rest of the boat looking right.
