Well heck! I’m still sitting in Chicago in my flannels posting other people pictures and just dreaming I was down there.

Had plans for the St John Cruise and the Tavares show way back in 2019 but then you know stuff happened.

Last trip down there was with the Glasspar Club in 2014 so I’m long overdue.

Anybody that likes old boats should see this amazing show.

Got lucky at that show and hitched the ride of my lifetime aboard Miss America IX.

Quite a thrill to have those twins opened up in your face at 70 mph.

Gar Wood’s boat set speed record exceeding 100 mph in 1931. The original V-12 Packards are gone and she is powered by big block Chevies.

Hey Bob,
What did Bill show?

Thanks,
Terry

Hey Bob,
No pictures? What are we, chopped liver?

Jan, looks like a perfect day for a boat ride.

28’ 1929 Sea Lyon

Worth the price of admission.

The Elto Cub apparently was quite the chick magnet.

Something you don’t see every day.

These folks really get around.

Thanks,
Terry

Yes...the Sea Lion is the triple we were riding in...a really great boat and a fun ride up and down the river. Now that I have a good look at it, I'm sure it's not a Chris Craft. I think it's a Hacker. Anybody know for sure?

Yes I believe that's a Garwood.

Sorry Terry believe it or not I only took two pictures with my phone and it was of the 26 Amphicars that were there. Pathetic I know!

You guys are close.

I found the ACBS listing for it as a 28’ 1929 Sea Lyon with 200 hp Scripps 6 cyl.

the ad site below for a 1928 Sea Lyon states:
In 1926 Howard Lyon was Gar Woods National Sales Manager but a falling out occurred when Gar Wood learned that Lyon was building his own brand of boats. The market crash closed his enterprise but his boats (few as they were) were highly regarded and sought after today as a fine example of craftsmanship during that time period.

The AmphiCar brigade is always an awesome sight.

Thanks for the info. I've been doing this "boat thing" for at least 40 years but have never heard of a Sea Lion until now...rode in one before I knew they even existed!

One of those ads offers a brand new 1929 29' Hacker Dolphin for $4,850. I ran it through the inflation calculator and came up with $80,706! That's INCREDIBLY CHEAP for a brand new 29' triple cockpit with a 200 HP Sterling engine and in 1929, everybody had money...until October. Imagine the cost of having that built today.
