So there are four of these thingies on my '59 Seafair. One on either side of the cockpit (mounted next to the eyes that I imagine must be for the clasp at the end of the webbing tie downs for the convertible top) and one on either side of the splashwell. What is their function?
Always been curious.

Thanks,
Eric

Hello Eric,

Dohickeys hold down motorwell cover using custom made bungies. Same on the cruise tanks where cord runs through FG strut.

Bingo on the convertible top.

Happy New Year you all!
Thanks,
Terry

Ah yes. Thingies and doohickies are generic names for watchamacallits.
Comon on most older boats, can be purchased in bags of 24. Are used mostly for snagging pants pockets, and fishing line. Usually installed by previous owners for whatever reason and then never used. Sometime known as PIA parts. Most new owners will remove them, put them in a baggie, store them someplace where you won't forget where they are and in three years find them on a shelf along with a dead mouse. I have found several of them rolling around in glove boxes along with odd keys, fish hooks, sinkers and assortments of sundries, usually rusty. Good for bungies but not quite large enough for a good grip causing the bungie to slip off and fly to the outer limits leaving a nice scratch in your new paint.
Best thing to do is remove them with the old rusty screwdriver and pliers that you will find in the bilge next to the bilge pump that hasn't worked since 1957.
Happy New Year.

63Saber  Thanks for the laugh. So true.

Terry, thanks! That makes more sense for the well than my current setup, which had someone screw two threaded rods in with wing nuts to keep it in place. Seems a little difficult to undo quickly. I like your way better.

Eric
